Hi I was just reading another forum. I'm getting documents ready for submission. Is it compulsory to submit a BC or is this optional? My passport has my DOB and place of Birth on the Information Page.

On the other forum thread some said it is compulsory, and others said 'No'. Can someone who has gone through the process shed some light?

Thanks in advance of your replies.

BC is required only for dependent kids and not for PA and spouse.

It used to be compulsory (before EE), it no longer is (for adults).

Thank you jes_ON and Jkal. +1 for you both.

For proof of relationship (with a sibling), do I need to submit my own as well as my sibling's BC? Or is sibling's BC required only? It doesn't state clearly in the checklist :/

Per Jes_ON's post you don't need BC anymore under EE.

This is a different topic. Submitting both BC's with your parents' names identified - or some other official document that will do the same - is absolutely necessary, yes.

what about Ontario Express Entry?

I can not obtain one anymore.

Can somebody answer? thank you.

I have not applied for OINP, does it say you need BC? If no, then obviously ignore. If yes, then is it possible to contact a 'Registry of Births' or the 'Hospital' in the country you were born? I'm pretty sure that these kinds of records have to be maintained.

OINP needs a copy of your BC or some such Government-issued document explaining why you don't have a BC.

The OINP Application Guide says (Section 3.6, 'Identity and Civil Status Documents') -

Provide a copy of your birth certificate or an acceptable national document where an original birth certificate is not available (i.e., letter from appropriate government authority indicating why your birth certificate is not available).

Apply for a birth certificate in your country ASAP. (it is a muddled up procedure in certain states of India - Karnataka for example does not have centralized birth/death records before 2010 last time I checked )

I applied for SINP, and they ask Birth Certificate for Principal Applicant and dependents.

So you have to get BC, it will be required at any stage of application process.
