As expected
Bill c6 won't move this year , maybe something would happen around spring 2017 with all the break they have for the upcoming year and the current trend
Anyone hoping anything to happen for this bill is going to end up being disappointed, I think like one of the members said we should only post if should there be any update for bill c6
the year is about to end , and no major piece of legislation the liberals implemented have been passed except the assisted dying bill . And I have a feeling they will go on break earlier than expected

Anyone who has a gram of common sense should know that C-6 is a 2017 bill; no chance of it passing before the end of 2016. However, I am speaking for myself here, I find the discussions in this forum interesting. I already accepted that I will be applying once I finish the 4 year period, but there are other factors I learn from the exchange of ideas here.

Then what is the difference between a citizen by descent that abuses the system and a citizen by birth/naturalization or even a PR who does ? Can you please provide an explanation beyond generic statements ?
Why do you keep assuming that ALL citizens by descent will abuse the system ?

I never said all citizens will abuse it. However unlike the new citizenship limits, you can't abuse it. No way to do it. Very cut and dried. No gray area for potential of abuse.

Take for example the EI system. Do you agree when a person who habitually work one year then collects EI for 6 months, then returns to work and repeat it over and over, is someone who is abusing the system? Did I say everyone on EI are abusing the system? No. As long as there are rules or system, there are always a few scamming the system. Both employers and employees are taking advantage of the system. Some employers "fake" lay off employees so they can collect ei benefits while working for "cash" for the same employer.

So when you start introducing rules for citizenship of decent to gain ability to pass on citizenship, there is going to be someone out there to scam the system. Take a look at all the crooked consultants helping others gain citizenship / maintain PR status. You can bet there are going to be some who will also scam the rules for granting "citizenship by descent" ability to pass on citizenship.

So that said, if one were to introduce rules to allow citizens by descent to pass on citizenship, it has to be rock solid. No way to abuse it. So until such a rule can ensure no way to abuse it, it is best to leave the new citizenship limitation rules as is.

Yeah basically 2017 applicants are the most affected ones
Always looking at good sides of things , a lot of people , including myself , learned a lot about legislative stuffs , How a law is passed , How the legislative system works etc
Everything happens for a reason

They skipped all the second reading bills, i tried to seek some answers, for how long a senator can hold a bill till someone speak up and say something but it seems there is no deadline, the funny thing if they decided to move it to the thirds reading, the we will start seeing it skipped and skipped over and over or even worse you will hear the senators keep repeating the exact same discussion over and over

Senate sitting has no end

Same here. Honestly, I could have lived for decades in Canada without being able to name a single Senator :). Not really a subject of my personal interest. But thanks to this I know most of them and a few things about each.

There is nothing stopping other Senators from bringing C-6 back to the table of discussion; other than their lack of interest :)

I am the one in affect list. Landed on July and have only 180 Days for 2013. which means whole year will not count as per current regulations. to Qualify the year I need 183 days :(

Run the online calculator and you will see that you can apply for citizenship in july 2017 (4 years after landing) assuming you didn't leave canada since you landed.

Anyone who landed in last half of year are at no disadvantage over those who landed in the first half of the year. Everyone can qualify for citizenship 4 years after landing regardless of when they landed.

That 'year' is not the calendar year , think of it as the 1st 365 days since landing , 2nd 365 days since landing, and so on, that appears to be how the online calculator works

I think Screech339 is right. Badar14 should run the calculator.

Not sure what taxes has to do with your citizenship application? Did you read it somewhere or did you just come up with that?
