To be fair, 'the senator' had told us that they had agreed (in the Senate) to pass the bill in May and they did. As many have said and based on recent history in regards to other bills, it does not require a weeks to pass and amended bills (couple days debate in HoC and Senate are more than enough). So, it's possible for the bill to go through by the end of the month (if there is agreement behind the scene). What I care more about is the implementation of the bill... for those of us who fall in between C24 and C6 eligibility based on time spent in Canada vis-à-vis processing times.

Spyfry has explained the government need to get the other bills moving before passing C6 back to SoC. C6 amendments (only amendments) will be debated and then voted on. The gov have stated that they aim to discuss C6 this week - which I'm sure is partly what Sen. Jaffer is going on.

We all want it to progress - hopefully it will this week.

Why do you think that the amendments will be refused by hoc?
The core of the bill wasnt amended

Just two simple clauses were amended
I'm not saying the HoC will refuse the amendments, nor the HoC will accept them. I meant we would know a 99% confident indication by this weekend from whether the government would appeal Hassouna v. Canada.

There is another speculation that the government is preparing another bill to properly address the issues about the rights to appeal and minor applicants. In this case, all Senate's amendments will be rejected by HoC but the Senate would not insist the amendments.

Although Senate's amendments are good, they are indeed new contents to the bill instead of amendments. Those new contents should properly go through the whole legislation process instead of being appended in the last minute.

But anyway, if this is what is happening, Bill C-6 will proceed much smoother. Stay positive.

The HoC will accept or reject the amendments. The SoC will either accept or reject the HoC decision. We will know soon.

If that is true, it would make sense. A lot of us agreed that the Senate took too long and compounded the issue when they proceeded to make those changes which were out of scope. The "minor applicants" amendment should have NEVER been raised, but should have been part of a new Senate bill. Hence, the anger towards them.

Anger? For providing protection to vulnerable children? Are you for real?

Is today the day MP Bardish was saying(last week, and then week before) C6 may come up in HoC, or was it tomorrow?

The plan was to make progress on C-44 and C-45 mon-tue and HOPEFULLY get onto C6... So far they are on track. It could be between today - Thursday. No specific date was given.

Before you get too excited... you have to read in context "...but should have been part of a new Senate bill." This was the government's argument.

"The vulnerable children" issue is too complex for this bill and should not be just an amendment. Therefore it would require more time to look at the whole legal system as it pertains to such children.

I'm not "too excited" but I am flabbergasted that so many people seem to think their priorities trump other important issues. If the amendment was out of scope - it would have been voted as being out of scope, any senator could have shut it down. The fact is the amendment received almost unanimous approval across by parties - because it's an important issue. It's an issue that others have promised to fix over the years but haven't.

And FYI this amendment added very little time onto the bill in the SoC and even if it hadn't been discussed or passed, Bill C6 would be no further forward in the HoC.

The fact is C6 is now in its final stages so everyone just needs to chill and keep an eye out over the next week or so. The bill will pass - it's not a matter of "if" anymore. The only thing in question is the SoC's 3 amendments.
