Senate Calendar:

http://www.parl.gc.ca/ParlBusiness/senate/calendar/cal2014-e.htm

It says (Possible sitting day), it doesn't mean there won't be a sitting

Now that I can post a link, this document states that most of the provisions of C-24 will take effect on "a day to be fixed by order of the Governor in Council":

http://www.parl.gc.ca/Content/LOP/LegislativeSummaries/41/2/c24-e.pdf

Specifically see section 2.9.3.2, which identifies "subsequent" changes as including "new requirements for naturalization and revocation". So, the date when applications for citizenship will have to conform to the new law is still unknown, and may not even be this year.

I got an e-mail from a very reliable source (an acquaintance who is close the Minister's staff) that once the new bill takes effect the Minister plans to authorize the creation of a special task force within CIC to investigate cases of new citizens who are absent from Canada for long periods of time and have not filed tax returns with CRA, for possible revocation proceedings on grounds of fraud (misrepresentation of intent to live in Canada at time of oath).

IF it passes before summer break and receives Assent before August 1, AND they implement the residency time changes and the elimination of pre-PR time in a year or less from Assent, then I am hosed by merely a few days, and will have to wait two more years.

This sucks. And it really saddens me that Canada, under the Cons, is becoming more and more like the USA as time goes along. I left the US to get away from this sort of vindictive bad-government crap.

Who said senate is not working on friday?????????

When a party is in the majority, they can move meetings, schedule new meetings, cancel meetings, etc. In short, they can do most anything to push a bill through Parliament in a matter of days. Putting your reliance on a published calendar is pointless. By the time the information is updated, it's already out of date.
