Yay Marco! You're moving along! As you may imagine, I'm keeping an eye on your application and what's happening to it, as an anchor for what might happen to mine!

My postal code is still misspelled on ecas (home and mailing address), and I can't change it since I'm outland. They are not responding to the email we sent a month ago, so we're going to try a fax next. It'd save them and me work if they just answered the email, sigh...

hey Indigo, I would not worry about ecas too much. If you emailed them and maybe send a fax too, it should be fine, they might just not update it on ecas.

Hi All,
So I had received my AOR Dec.22, 2011 which I was really happy about it.
Now though I just got 2 emails. One asking to pay the PR fee (because we had only paid half of it in the beginning) which isn't a problem at all. The other one though is asking for my partner's birth certificate. I don't remember them asking to send the birth certificate with the application (we probably included other proof) so why would they need it now? The problem is that my partner was born in Afghanistan and when they literally fled the country everything was left behind and they have absolutely nothing now. I guess the if the Canadian government were to do a background check on my partner through the Dutch government there would be a record of this as well when they came into the Netherlands as refugees.
Should I be worried about this. My partner will call the Berlin embassy tomorrow to try and explain the situation. I was looking forward to a speedy process and now I am worried again. Has anyone had any experience with anything like this?
Please help!

if he is the applicant they need his birth certificate. I don't think you can really talk to somebody on the phone, everytime I tried I couldn't get a hold of a person. From my experience email is the best way to communicate with berlin.

Yes, I agree, email is probably the best way to contact them.

Hmm im not sure, But i think in our country (the Netherlands) they would not have your partners certificate when your partner was born in afganistan.
Like you say, Your partner came as refugee to the netherlands, and was not born here, so no background on birth is available.
Maybe your partner can try to contact the ministry of the Netherlands to ask if they can put up a letter for explanation regarding the missing birth certificate.
But i have no idea what department your partner have to go, or if they can do something like that, and berlin will accept that if so.

I think its a complicated thing! i hope im wrong in it for you guys!

Maybe just like others say, write a email with the situation, and wait what berlin has to say on it.

Just a question, but how did you and your partner got married without a birth certificate??

My experience as a foreigner in The Netherlands is that the only time they asked for a Birth Certificate was when my husband and I got married.

I wish you the best of luck, sharifah14.

I think they are applying as common-law, so not married. I hope I'm wrong, but I think your case could be one of the longer ones, without a birth certificate. The Working-Holiday Visa is a good alternative while you're waiting.

Congrats indigo on the good news!
Just to clarify my partner and I are applying as common-law and are not yet married. In the meantime we have applied for the open work-permit and I have emailed Berlin regarding the situation. I have yet to hear back from them but when I do I will post there response in the case that I can help anyone else out who could be in a similar situation.
Fingers and toes crossed!

Your situation is a bit similar to mine, actually. My common-law partner and I are applying from Germany; she, however, is originally from the Ukraine (born in the Soviet Union) and she doesn't have any official documentation proving she renounced her Ukranian citizenship (although she did, and is now a naturalized German citizen). I'm a bit worried something or other might annoy the IO; hopefully all will go well for you!
