Try not to stress too much, there must be so many of us in this situation. One would hope that they realise that those of us who do not have another type of residency permit in each other's countries are in a chicken or the egg dilemma. How can we have all these things until we have PR status, but on the other hand we need the evidence to get PR status! Grrrr!

This actually reminds me of the conversation we had with the Canadian border agent on our return from the US earlier this year. We went up together and she looked at hubby's Canadian passport and my Australian passport, and asked why I was coming to stay for 6 months. I said that we are married, and I'm visiting my husband. She then asked, suspiciously, why he lived in Canada while I lived in Australia, and I so badly wanted to retort 'well, because neither country hands out PR simply on the presentation of the wedding certificate!' >:( Thankfully I bit my tongue and said something innocuous instead, and I was allowed in.

I was in the same situation! My hubby was only a temporary worker, so he couldn't join on my account and basically had to BEG my bank to let him have an account and a SIN card. But the card was registered to our address. We just have a lot of joint mail. Nothing too official, bank statements, phone bills, etc. mailed to our address. I don't think I included much but a joint rental agreement! My hubby added me on his account when I was a temporary worker in NZ, so that is our only joint account - but they do not allow joint anything! And in Vancouver - there is no way I could even make a down payment on a house, let alone have a joint mortgage!!! I'm only 25, so my evidence is very limited! I'm so worried about it all :/

Yeah, reading all the posts made me worried too, since we only sent in phone bills and photos... We didnt even include any chat logs... Im getting worried over that now...

My cell company doesn't provide records that far back, so I couldn't send any phone bills!!! The chat logs I did send were just samplings, and I wrote that I could send more if asked.

I received paper bills and it's a hoarding habit that keeps them intact till now :)

don't worry... i think majority here are genuine cases so we should be alright. good luck to us all!

I definitely agree!!! I think they just ask for more proof if they're not convinced, and I'm fully capable of that :) I had a LOT OF LETTERS from friends and family too, so I hope that gives a huge push!

Good luck to everyone! I wish I could at least get through stage 1 already! Haha

Yea i know how you feel. I tried logging into ecas yesterday, was so happy that finally something showed, i.e. my husband's name, but it has a box n a statement like this: click the box to remove the ability of viewing online statement. If i dont click i cant continue, if i click n will not be able to view, argghhh, frustrating!

update from me:

finally i could see my name and application status on ecas. It says: "in process" for the sponsorship application status and "application received" at the permanent residence application status.

"We received your application to sponsor ****** on June 18, 2012.

We started processing your application on August 22, 2012.

We sent you a letter on August 22, 2012 about the decision on your application. Please consider delays in mail delivery before contacting us."

the mail hasn't reached us though. not sure if they send normal or registered mail...

has anyone else heard the rumour that the sydney VO no longer requests the passport be physically sent to them? I remember reading somewhere on this forum that they now just ask for photocopies of each page. I realllllly hope this is true as my bf and I are both in Canada and sending his visa to Sydney is a lonnnng way, and I'm worried we might have a trip planned or something and he can't part with it.

am i being crazy or has anyone else heard about this?

thanks!

As far as I can tell, those of us from visa exempt countries can just submit photocopied pages of the passport and receive a COPR letter to take to the border and land. I hope this is true - I included a photocopy of every passport page in my initial application just in case.

I received PPR today and yes, I can confirm that Sydney only requests a photocopy of every page rather than the original passport!

that's great news! thanks for that and congrats misskay that was fast!

Sydney Visa office's processing time has become 8 months instead of 7 months from the last quarter... they seem to have more applications coming their way ya? it means our wait will be a tad longer...

update from me: eCas showed "Decision made" on the sponsorship application status side and "application received" on the permanent residence application side. We still havent received the letter cic sent out on 22nd aug. gosh, Canada Post is real ssssslllllloooooowwwwwwwwww. i dont even know what decision they made, hix.

Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone has heard anything from Sammi? According to her profile, COPR was being mailed end of July, not sure if she has landed yet...?

Also, Canstralian, what are you up to? Is it showing in "in process" for you? You must be really close to COPR by now!!

Hey Miniejungle,

congratulations on the sponsorship approval! decision made is good news... if you are within the criteria (no criminal record, etc), then you are approved. If they were not convinced about your proofs to return to Canada, then they would have asked for more proofs - so in your case, since it's decision made, it means that your application has passed stage 1...
Quite soon you should see on the PR part "medicals have been received", which means that they have received your application from Mississauga, and they have matched your medicals with it. Sydney is a very fast VO, so that's lucky!
Good luck on the second part of the application, but the first part is done already!
Cheers,
Sweden

hi Sweden,

thanks for the encouraging words, again. I also read somewhere that "decision made" means approval, however, i tried not to hold my hope too high till i see the written words (my hubby checked the mails daily but haven't seen their letters, and apparently Canada Post Union are on strike hence the delay). I also have "Medicals have been received" on the PR part even before the sponsorship application status changed from "in process" to "decision made", so hopefully they have completed stage 1 as you said.

if my application reaches Sydney office, i guess they would contact me to send them the Singapore police check (Singapore Police needs a letter from CIC to release the records so i need them to write to me for that). If they do, i would write to them about my newly acquired Australian citizenship so that i can have the Canadian PR recorded on the new passport instead of the old one.

we're all taking baby steps here, waiting for CIC to give out their precious visas to us. good luck everyone!
