Just to throw fuel on the fire, a september US outland app that got DM in December 2016 got an email from Ottawa 4 days after DM telling her the COPR had been mailed...

Yesterday, I received an email confirming my approval and stating that my COPR has been sent. That means it took 4 days from approval for correspondence to be sent out and for the COPR to be printed.

That's possible. A 9/29 applicant processed through Ottawa from the U.K. was asked for the same thing and posted shortly after the other person.

I'm almost sure at this point that is it. I have not heard yet of one case where a US Citizen was asked for passport photos before COPR.

Honestly I wish I did not do the research on the DM thing...now I ANXIOUSLY wait the mail every single day. I swear I think I checked my mail 5 times today hoping the mailman arrived. It's so annoying I was better off thinking it was another 8 weeks away!

I call them passport photos, but that's because my husband keeps calling them that. He looked at them and said the photo specifications for the PR photos are identical to the ones for passport photos. The ones we're supposed to include with the application initially.

It easily could be that they either get lost/separated from the application or that there's something wrong (CIC decides too much time has passed from when they were taken and wants updated ones). It's definitely not something everyone gets asked for.

Edit: Looked back to July, further, found someone else that seemed to have an American spouse who was asked for new photos after DM - PandaChan. Unless he just lived in the U.S. Wasn't quite clear.

Yup. Same. Check mail consistently throughout the day. Along with checking my email inbox often. And don't forget the fact that I still check MyCIC multiple times too. It is mentally exhausting. Now I have this auto insurance to figure out on top of it. *yawn*

While my husband was visiting in December, I went to get the mail one day and there was an envelope the right colour and size in there. Even knowing there was almost no chance it was a COPR, since MyCIC and ECAS hadn't changed at all, I almost had a heart attack. When I flipped it over, it was some spam life insurance thing addressed to my mom, who passed away four years ago.

All these people checking their emails and mail boxes....can I just get a DM....please.... :'(

Omg - you poor thing!

I received an email with what looks like a request for my passport last night. One question, as I am a British Citizen do I need to send my passport off for a visa? On the checklist it says that I need an eTA to travel to Canada, is this the same thing as the visa? And if not, they are asking me to upload a copy of my passport and the letter I just received + mailing two passport photos to the London office. Has anyone done the same thing?

I've not posted much on this forum, but the information here has been really helpful whilst applying and after we sent it off.

Sorry, I don't have any advice. My husband is also from the Netherlands and our app is also being processed in Ottawa. Strange that the copr comes from Vienna...!
Also you already received copr but they're asking you to send your passport in with two photos? Doesn't make any sense to me ???

I think he/she means PPR not COPR. The two are easy to mix up. One lets you land and the other is just a request for your passport. It's possible they need to mail it to Vienna because that is where the Visa will be issued not in Ottawa. To the Original Poster, I would just follow the directions you received in the email exactly as it says.

You can apply for an eTA online:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/eta-start.asp

It requires you to upload your passport. Not sure about the passport photos requirement but follow the instructions exactly as they say.
