the total amount for the application is $1040. What do you expect this money to cover? Remember that there are multiple immigration officers to pay and offices to maintain, not to mention plenty of other administrative costs. I doubt $1040 per application is enough to cover even 1% of that. Also, we can't expect a large portion of the taxes paid by canadians to pay for immigration services. I'm sure there are other matters citizens would rather see thier money be allocated to first. You know things like health care, education and infrastructure? My guess is the majority of the budget allocated to these offices goes toward employee compensation. As far as how long it takes visa offices to process, that has nothing to do with money. That has to do with government workers working, and whatever internal "rules" that go along with that job. They get paid no matter how fast or slow they process an application. This isn't private enterprise where the bottom line and productivity matters. This is a government agency.
agreed and to add to it.. They also do their own checks and what not so if they are waiting on those background checks to come back it can delay your application and would be out of their hands. $1040 isn't bad at all.. have a look at prices to immigrate to other countries. Australia for instance is 3 times the price.

You're totally right though, considering how inefficient governments are and the incredible amount of money it takes to just get them to perform normal functions, $1,040 is a BARGAIN to gain PR status in one of the best and peaceful countries in the world :)

yes, it is completely normal to not receive an AOR from the visa office. Only a select few send AORs, and i'm not sure what is common for your office.

No, this doesn't mean your applicaiton has started processing. It basically just means it's been received and is now sitting in queue waiting to be worked on. Generally, when an application is in process, ECAS will say "we started processing your applicaiton on xx/xx/xx". This isn't to say EVERY application in process gets this update on ECAS. Some lucky few never get updates on ECAS, so it's best to NOT check it regularly because it just leads to disappointment for most.

Once sponsorship approval is given, it's pretty standard to expect MONTHS and MONTHS of no communication AT ALL. Most of this process is done in the dark! The best way to estimate how long you will wait is to find the thread on this forum for your Visa Office, check out any spreadsheets created, and see what the "trend" is. Considering your application was just transferred, and i'm assuming you VO has a longer processing time, it will be some time before any updates or movements are made on your file. The only VOs I've noticed having super quick turnarounds are Paris and Syndey. Mexico and Pretoria seem to be on the quicker end too. Most have an "average" of 6-10 months, some have much longer.

Are we missing anyone who from April applicants who hasn't received SA ??
It feels like we graduated from the same high school (CIC-M) and now going on our own ways to different universities (VOs) :) :) :)
I wish you all a fast and easy processing with your VOs!!

Ohhh dear :( I think CIC is now processing a bit faster, so you should be on track very soon! Hang in there!
Silverlining: they haven't returned back your application. Recently, I read on the forum that CIC returns back the entire application when even one form is missing

No news is a good news! But any New News in this case is Better News!!!

Just checked my online status and it says "Decision Made" under my Sponsorship Application Status. That's the only change so far... But still a change and one positive at a time...

Hi Batchie,

Have you tried calling the CIC call center? The duration between the AOR and SA took longer for some applicants. But I think it's good to chase with CIC.
Hope you get the good news soon!

This applicant sent the application in June. CIC just started processing MAY applications, therefore calling CIC will not be helpful. They will tell her exactly the same thing, call back when the system says they are processing applications received after her date. There is quite a while to wait still for June applicants.
