We're flying as a family to Vancouver where we will complete the landing formalities. We arrive on January 30 and stay for four nights. My parents are coming out to meet us. Then we're going back to China to wrap up unfinished business. We fly out for good on August 15, 2013.

Another bit of good news is that I have been pre-approved for a mortgage! All that I need to do is get a Canadian based credit card and start building credit...everything else is a go...

We are beside ourselves with excitement!

Hope you get your passport back yesterday!!

I received my visa today! Well, my COPR.

It arrived in an enormous cardboard envelope with a lot of reading material and landing documents. I'm going to sit down to read it properly and call CIC in the morning to enquire about the possibility of landing at the Calgary CIC office.

So excited to finally see the end of this arduous process. I know I've been very fortunate to remain in Canada during processing, and can't imagine how difficult it would have been to wait overseas. Good luck to everybody still waiting, and please know that the moment you receive that massive cardboard envelope will be worth every painful second you've waited for it.

Kay

Congratulations! that's great!

Bah...it's a 6 week wait to land at the Calgary office! I would drive down to the border, but my licence has expired until I'm a resident. And I can't afford to fly anywhere as I haven't been able to legally work for months. What to do!

Depending on how far you are from the border, you could get a bus down there, walk in to the states and then walk back over!!

Any family or friends who could drive you?? Calgary is only 3 hours to the US border. Heck, If I wasn't currently in the US with my husband, I'd volunteer to drive you :)

Sunshine that is so kind of you to say :)

We've asked around, and have found a friend who is willing to drive us to the border on Friday - we'll of course be buying lunch and paying for gas. So excited!

I'm still very surprised that there's a 6 week waiting list, and hope this info can benefit anybody planning to land at a local CIC office in future

Slightly off topic but how did you find out about the wait time for landing at the Calgary office?

Just called the usual CIC number, waited on hold for a bit, then said I'd like to make an appointment to land. I believe they forward the request to your local office, who will (eventually) contact you to advise the time/date of your appointment.
