What is the difference between


a. Registered mail directly to our Embassy:
Visa Office Embassy of Canada Laurenzerberg 2/3 1010 Vienna
Austria

and


c. Private courier service.

If you choose this option, you must supply a pre-paid commercial courier coupon. Ensure that all the required information is completed on the pre-paid commercial courier coupon, including:
- your full mailing address in the "Deliver To" field
- the address of the Canadian Embassy in Vienna in the “Return Address” field (see address above)
- your account details

Once you have arranged the pre-paid pick-up with the commercial courier service, the commercial courier company must contact our section by e-mail
(vienn-visa@international.gc.ca) in order to organize the pick-up of your envelope.

ppl who have already done it can advise, but this is my understanding:
Option 1: You send them passport through normal registered post. and they send back through the same. A normal post will obviously take more time, but VO will not charge you for that.
Option 2: You send them a speedy courier and request them to send passport back using the same. In this case, you need to bear the cost of the courier. Thats why they are asking for a prepaid coupon.

I would suggest DHL because:
DHL has better network in Central Europe compared to Fedex.
DHL is slightly cheaper as well.

What is the difference between.....

registered mail is when you go personally to a post office, and send it in an envelope as registered mail. it travels, depending on a country you are sending it from, 3 to 7 days.
private courier is DHL, UPS, FedE, and maybe some other in your country, you can google courier providers.

MY PERSONAL OPINION is that courier service is much safer, it is pretty much same traveling time-wise. i'd recommend any courier service, if you can use that option. i used UPS several times in past, since they are cheapest in my country.

UPS doesn't do the return of passports, check with other couriers, I think someone wrote Fedex accepts to do both way.
If you are sending from Belgrade you can use IOM service, they charge around 5900 din. per passport (I suppose other offices also offer this service but I'm not sure).
