Congrats to everyone!
I see a lot of good news.
I have purchased ticket and shall land September 6th at Toronto.
One question for all of you in preparation stage.
How do you plan to bring money in, cash, bank transfer to account in Canada or as I am planing to, bring only 1K with me and VISA card with me along with fresh bank statement for past 1 year as POF if asked by immigration officer?
In this third option once I am in Canada and open local account there my wife would send money via bank transfer.
Does this sound OK?
Share you plans with me please.
P.S. I have managed to secure lowest skilled minimum wage work as soon as I land via some fellow I know from home country, would this make me POF exempt at port of entry if above plan is not OK from CIC point of view. What documents should I present as proof of work if that is feasible option?
From the CIC website it says this:
You do not have to show that you have these funds if:
you have a valid offer of arranged employment in Canada AND
you are currently working or authorized to work in Canada.
So from that, you only meet one of the criteria. So I would make sure you had POF, but also a letter from your new employer confirming your new job as an extra piece of documentation. Hope that helps.
As for bringing money, your plan sounds good. I am Canadian, but my Dutch boyfriend has been living in Canada for 2 years. He has been able to use his Dutch bank Card in any Canadian ATM/bank machine and can withdraw cash (up to $400 a day). So even if you don't have a bank account open, you should be able to have access to your cash. But I am not 100% sure if this works with all bank cards. I would check with your bank.
