I agree with asbereth and utopie. It doesn't matter you are employed at this moment. We are all employed as RA's right? What they are looking for is a offer of employement, basically a promise that you will be hired after you become a PR. If you can come up with that, then you are basically applying to that the arranged employment FSW class instead of the PHD.
i agree too ;)

Hi Guys,

Great job here. I need your expertise/experience in gathering my application. I am currently in my third year PhD program in Biology. I have issues with the work experience section. I have taken on TA roles since the commencement of my PhD studies. I have also worked part-time as a high school Chemistry and Biology teacher, however, this was during my undergraduate years. Do you think these experiences would suffice? Thanks guys.

@TyrusX

The part-time job was for 3 years at 21 hour per week. My fear is that my roles as a teacher were undertaken before I was awarded my BSc (undergraduate) degree. Not sure if High school teacher is part of the required job title for PR application under the PhD stream.

NOC 4031 can be classified under skill level A, if your duties match the majority of descriptions given under NOC 4031, your high school teaching experience should definitely count

http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/noc/2011/html/Matrix.html

http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/noc/2011/Profile.aspx?val=4&val1=4031

However, one of the employment requirements for NOC 4031 is that you should have have a Bachelor's degree in education, and it would be difficult to convince them that you were qualified to teach these students while you were an undergrad.

Teachers of academic subjects require a bachelor's degree in education which is often preceded by a bachelor's degree in the arts or sciences.
You may still try to apply, though I suggest that you wait, unless you can accumulate at least 3,900 hours of work experience elsewhere (maybe from RA/TA).

Agree with others. just check whether you have 1950 hours of work experience as a RA. This should be continuous part time. For example 20 hrs per week for 2 years.

What? This seems a bit overkill. Can you provide us with information?

well well, UWO seems to do that: http://grad.uwo.ca/current_students/international_students/residency.html

I wonder where else.

Has anyone learned about the new assessment in effect in May? It seems 1 yr previous work experience IN CANADA will get us 10 points for adaptability and a good IELTS score brings much more than now. Why don't we kick off a preparation for the new standard instead of being annoyed with the old unreasonable ones?

Hi folks,

Someone asked me about my timeline. Here it is:

I submitted the application on May 23, 2012
Received file number a week after
Received a request for complimentary documents at Feb 14, 2013
I am from Iran, so it might be helpful for you.

I also have a question. As I already told you, I got an email requesting for the followings:

1. Evidence of account activity for the past six months
2. The field of study for your doctoral program
3. The name and contact details of your doctoral advisor and/or academic supervisor
4. A detailed Curriculum Vitae
5. A list of all publications that you have authored or have participated in.
I have already got the official bank activity. But what do you think about the rest? Do I need to get an official letter for items 2 and 3 from our department? Or I just need to write down the info on a piece of paper?

Things are very quiet for January applicants. Only I got medical requests so far, it seems? February applicants seem to be doing much better.
