Haven't been here for a while. Congrats for all that got PER these days!

A bit of updates on myself. The eCAS status is now "in progress". And I got an email yesterday saying that "the letters of employment" I provided “do not provide sufficient information” for them to assess my work experience. The wording was almost exactly the same as previous posts, so I didn't put it here again. I was given 60 days to prepare new letters, otherwise the application "will be assessed with the information on file".

Anyways, they highlighted that I need to provide the letters that "state my main duties and responsibilities", and also "number of hours per week and the total hours of work". The funny part is I did provide those information in my old letters. I guess my supervisor did not say too much about my duties and responsibilities, and she only mentioned I have to work 40 hr/week since September 2008. So I asked her to prepare the letter again, and this time she wrote more details about my RA duties, and she even mentioned my publications during the period. Also she wrote down the "total number of hours" I worked so far. BTW, how many hours would count as full-time job? 2000? And is RA a full-time or part-time? It's a bit confusing though because I did work more than 40 hr/week...Anyways, I have about 7500 hrs of RA till now, hope they can accept that for at least 3 yr of working experience.

One last thing, I feel I'm getting paranoid after I mailed out the new letter. I just realized it's not sealed in an envelope. Does it matter? I mean they did mention in the email that "stamp with the company’s official seal (if applicable)." But what if it's not applicable...Ahhhhhh....I have to stop thinking too much...

And hope all you guys have a good long weekend...I didn't realize it's holiday tomorrow at all, and consequence is that I have to come to the lab tomorrow to finish what I've already started...It sucks

Yes. I put FSW-PHD at the envelop of my application. I see the CIC office would do that for you if you do not.

Hi Shomo, just curious, according to the spreadsheet, you submitted your application on Nov 10, only 5 days after the PhD stream was announced. I'm wondering, how did you gather the documents so fast ? Were you preparing for another PR application at the time?

I applied for FSW2 in July but did not make the 500 quota, so my application was returned. Actually I had everything ready when this new PhD stream was introduced, so the only thing I had to do was to print the new checklist and new generic application form and change my cover letter

Hi megha_Ontario, have you or your spouse ever worked full-time in Canada on a valid work permit? I think the instruction is pretty clear in the sense that the work experience needs to be obtained using a work permit (rather than study permit).

Hi Luigiovemma, a study permit should be sufficient to conduct work on campus, which is why none of us requires a work permit to do RA/TA since this would be considered an on-campus employment.

Anyway, about your colleague, I'm wondering if he probably had some sort of adaptability points when he applied. As we have established, you would need to have completed a program (though not necessarily obtain any credentials) to get awarded the 5 adaptability points, so just having 2 years of RA/TA (without any adaptability points) would not give you the required 67 points. Well, unless if he knows French (or if he could somehow argue that the 2 years RA/TA was full-time).

You mean, FSW1, right (since FSW2 does not have any quota)? It's good that it took you so fast to get the letter from graduate studies office regarding your enrollment and good academic standing. It took my school 5 business days to process the letter >_<

Make sure though that there would be no contradictory information between the new letters and the ones you sent. I'm assuming that you have copies of all the letters you submitted? Double check everything, and make sure that everything is consistent (and that the additional information would not in any way contradict what you submitted before).

And I'm not sure whether you can count RA/TA as full-time since you're also claiming full-time studies during the period you're claiming you're doing work as well (maybe somebody else can elaborate on this?). But since apparently you have had more than 4 years of RA/TA experience, then, provided everything is clear from the letters you will provide, you should get at least 2 years of working experience from this. Assuming you have the maximum number of points for IELTS, a Master's degree (with 17 years of education), and under 35 years of age, you should have about 68 points, which would be more than the required 67.
