Hey guys,
Do you guys have any idea about the Adaptability points in the upcoming new FSWP system.
It says that " Previous Work In Canada for at least 1 year at an NOC classified occupation level 0, A, or B will earn an applicant 10 points"
I was wondering that as a PhD student who is doing TA and RA on Campus, I will be given this 10 points in addition to the 9 points that I can get from at least one year of fulltime work experience under NOC4012? As you may know, Post-secondary teaching and research assistants is 4012 in the 2011 NOC list and I think that would guarantee the 10 points from Adaptability section ! Please correct me if i'm wrong ?

Thanks in advance for any help that seniors can provide ! :)

Dude, relax :) Nobody is trying to purposely ignore you, but keep in mind that none of us here really knows what goes into an officer's mind, so nobody can give an answer that will always be applicable and correct 100 % of the time.

Anyway, regarding not including work experience while applying for visa, I really don't think it would be an issue (again, I'm not a lawyer, so treat my statement as that of a non-expert). Several applicants did not include RA/TA with their initial applications, got rejected (because of job description mismatch or something), then re-applied using RA/TA.

I think the situation is similar here, and I don't think any of them got into any problem.

Hi saeedp62, I think the amended subsection 83(1)(c) makes it clear that you can only gain this work experience under valid work permit

(c) for any previous period of full-time work under a work permit or under section 186 of at least one year in Canada by the skilled worker in an occupation that is listed in Skill Type 0 Management Occupations or Skill Level A or B of the National Occupational Classification matrix, 10 points

EDIT: you know what, this is interesting, if we check section 186, it defines all possibilities for foreign nationals to be able to work WITHOUT work permit, and one of them is

(f) if they are a full-time student, on the campus of the university or college at which they are a full-time student, for the period for which they hold a study permit to study at that university or college;

http://gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p1/2012/2012-08-18/html/reg2-eng.html
This is interesting. Does that mean PhD students will now qualify for an extra 10 points too? Thanks saeedp62 for bringing this up :) If this interpretation is correct, then you don't even need to score that well in IELTS to easily get above 67 points. The only major hurdle is to prove work experience obviously (and let's hope they don't treat RA/TA experience like they do for CEC)...

Morning everyone, an update on my status.
I got the document request for 6 month bank statement yesterday Mar 24. I was given one month to submit.

I have two questions, if you know please help! Thanks.
1. I need to submit the statements from Oct. 2012 to Mar. 2013. For the first three months my saving fell short of the required amount, around $3000 short. Does this matter?
2. In Jan. 2013, I got $12k transfer to my account from my parents and now it still stayed in my account. But even without this $12K, my own saving is above $14k from Jan. to Mar. Do I need to explain the source of this $12k? Anybody had the same experience?

Thanks!

My question to you is minus your 12K that your parents transferred to you, how did you manage to fill in the short of 3000 from Jan onwards? Was it gradual or just a lump sum of 3K++? I can't say for sure but anything BIG sum like 3k++ would require some explanation on how you got that money one-short. E.g. perhaps you can say in your cover letter that you go that from a freelance job e.g. web design etc. and show proof e.g. receipt of payment and customer agreement with you. But if you did it gradually, e.g. break it down to 500 every month for the past 6 mths, then its ok. You can safely assume that that is money you made for some part-time job.

As to the 12K, you will need to proof that your parents do not require the money back. This means get a signed document by them to show that the moneys yours for good.

I hope you should be fine without explanation, I did transfer 4000 dollar in January. I did not explain as I showed more than 20 k. In your case, as the amount of transfering money is very high and you have legal option to explain, I think it would be best to mention two lines in your cover letter and attach the transfer document if any, to be safe and avoid unexpected delay. If you do not feel comfortable to explain, just ignore the whole issue as you have sufficient money even more excluding 12K.

Thanks for your advice. I will try to get the proof.
As to your question, I worked on a project for my co-supervisor from January so my scholarship doubles from then. Also my wife find a temporary job in Feb. That's why we save some money.

Hmmm, as of right now, without adaptability, you would have 66 points if you claim one year of work experience, and 68 if you claim 2 years of work experience. Under the new point system, you will have 23 out of 28 for language. So, without adaptability, you will have 23 + 23 + 9 + 12 = exactly 67 points.

Under the new point system, you will have 72 points because you will get adaptability (without having to prove anything, as the 5 points are granted, even if you have not yet completed the program). Under the current system, if your Canadian Master program is at least two years long, and you can easily prove it, then you will get 71, but you have to be careful here in providing all documents required to prove that the program is two years long at least, and that you already completed it. If they don't accept your previous study, then you will only have 66 points (under the current system).
Thanks a lot for the feedback. I should be able to easily prove that my master's was 2 years.

I think that since I have all my documents ready, I'll try to apply with the new system.

Question: If I leave my documents with a friend here in Canada and ask him to send them
in the office here while I'm out of the country in Brazil, should there be any problem?

Thank you

Thanks ppb12. I noticed you have got the medical exam. Hope my process can go smooth as yours.

There you go, that is your explanation. Money always needs to be explained to them. We usually do this without thinking by providing them with information about how much money you make every month. Things that will always call attention for example, is you never having a job paying more than 1500 dollars, and still having a lot o money in you bank account.

Congratulations, guys :)

edwin83, if you don't require the 5 adaptability points to get above 67 points, most likely they have deemed you to pass selection factor, and have accepted your work experience. Send your documents as soon as possible, and you'll get your MR in no time :D

And regarding your POF, I'll PM you in a bit as I was in a similar situation when they asked me for POF documents.

Hi guys, I have a question re address on MR form. It is still our old address however I did update it online right after we moved to the current place. Should I call them or I can update this by changing address on medical form when it is sent back to Ottawa?

Guys I still have this pending question. Since I gotten my police cert reissued and know that the one with CIC has expired like 6 mths ago, should I proactively send it to them or wait for them to send me a request? What would be a wiser move?
