Thank you! That 16-18 weeks thing scared me!

February is when I planned on sending for it.

I'll have my medical done here in mid-March, then I fly to him mid-April.

Hope that all sounds right.

I just read this in another post:

"I know if you are married to a Canadian resident they can add you to their healthcare temporarily."

We didn't know this. Could someone explains what that means? How we go about doing that once we are married?

Every province has different rules. I believe the only one that allows healthcare simply for being a spouse and while on visitor status... is Alberta.
For NL, I think you would need to be a PR before you are eligible for provincial healthcare, but best to check all the rules by calling the NL healthcare office.

Benni, just wanted to let you know that you probably shouldnt waste time filling out forms now if you are not applying immediately thereafter. The reason is that CIC often changes (updates forms) without any notice, and if you send in older version of the form they will not accept it. Happened to me. I downloaded and filled out all forms in early August, but applied in November, and by the time CPC Mississauga got my forms 3 of the forms were updated on CIC website. I had to re send in new forms although the changes on them were irrelevant and minor.

I'm curious about "goods to follow" after receiving PR.

Technically I won't have any. When I go to Newfoundland in April, I will have 2 suitcases of clothing/personal care items on the flight (staying for 90 days).
Then when I come back the end of August, and stay for 6 months (less if PR approved before then), I will most likely have 1 suitcase of more clothing only. I'll be leaving most of what I brought in April there at my sponsor/husband's home.

I won't have any electronics, furniture, household goods, etc.

So, when I DO get my PR, what would I say about not having any goods to follow?

Tell them what you told us :) That you only have a suitcase of clothing to follow....they will likely not care and you won't have to worry about filling out the form. They only want to know if you have valuable goods coming in with you....expensive jewelry, lots of currency, fancy electronics (not your iPod, for example)...stuff like that.

Cool! Thank you!

Something else I thought of -- are they going to question why I have so many documents/paperwork with me (applying for PR after we marry in April)?
Should I tell them the truth if they do?

HELP!!!!! I called the doctor that I need to go to for my medical exam and was told this:

"You must file online FIRST and register. Then you will receive an ICE or UCI or UMI number through email. Doc cannot do exam without it!"

Now, how do I go about doing that? Sounds to me like that wouldn't be for an upfront exam which is what I intended to do before filing.

Did you specifically say you wanted an upfront medical for a spousal sponsorship app? Upfront medicals are only done for certain Family Class applications; every other type of application requires the medical request from CIC after application submission.

If you simply asked for an immigration medical, you received the standard answer.

If you did specifically ask for an upfront medical for a spousal sponsorship app, then call the office back and direct them to this page http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/medical/medexams-perm.asp.

An Up Front Medical is now a requirement for PR applicants. You need to find a competent Medical Doctor from the approved CIC list who will do your exam and give you a copy of the form that you will include with your application. A copy is electronically sent to CIC by the medical provider. The doctor you called is obviously out of touch with the latest changes to CIC requirements for medicals. Carefully read the instructions for completing your application correctly.

Thank you so much for your replies! No, I didn't tell her what class it was under but I did tell her I was told it needed to be upfront. I will call her back tomorrow and discuss it with her. Whew! You've made me feel much better!

By the way, she is the doctor listed under the Panel of Physicians for my state.

I called the doctor again and was able to talk to the person who actually does the med exam -- she said Family Class is done upfront, explained it all to me.

All is good!! Yay!!

Benni,

Have you submitted your application yet? There is a thread posting made on the new changes to PR inland sponsorship. According to the link, CIC will not accept OWP with application anymore. You would have to file OWP separately only when you get AIP stage. You would also have to file visitor, work, study extensions separately from PR applications as they will now be sent to Missisauga office instead of Vergrville.
