It was on the 11:00 news in ottawa. I made my husband play it while we were on skype. it was about a pregnant lady in BC who can't get health care while her application is in process, and they have been waiting for 1.5 years. Sounds like it is an inland app. The story mentioned the large backlog on immigration applications. I wonder what's going to happen now that this story is on the heels of the FSW firestorm?

No she was in Canada for years, but they just submitted the app in Aug 2013. So they are right around 9 months processing time, and should be getting AIP/stage 1 approval any day now, according to posted times on CIC.

Yes. The reporter even contacted Screech39 ( I believe) to get the spreadsheet that was shown in the segment.

Once you light up a match stick and a kindle fire is about to start, she will be the lucky few who will get their files look at in grand skim of thing. :'(

She has been here for 2 years and they didn't investigate this before having a baby . My daughter was born here to as a Canadian but i had to pay all my medical fees for 3 months before my heath insurance kicked in , then i had to pay another 2,000 to have the baby. While i feel sorry for her its the way it . What about the poor lady who is Canadian and can't get the drugs she needs for cancer because she don't live in the right province.

Canada is Canada i think every one she be treated the same which every province you live in . Same thing happens in the states too.

Totally agree Taffy, you have to abide by the rules, sometimes I feel people lack personal responsibility and when it all goes wrong they throw themselves at the authorities to look after them...when that doesnt work run to the press! As a social worker it sometimes drives me round the bend!

the fact that they stayed in canada for 2 years without applying for a spousal PR is every bit confusing. why were they delaying the process? there are many unfortunate cases but this one doesn't move me in any way. it sounds like they created their own misfortune.

That shouldn't matter at all (although I agree that it seems odd).

Once CIC received their application, she was eligible for BC MSP, and would have had coverage 2 months (plus the balance of the month when the application was received by CIC). It matters not that they waited so long to apply.

Since the Minister of Health indicated that "...if they can show that things are moving along, they will be covered." gives hope to any and all BC applicants...whether or not they are pregnant!

Hey Ponga,

Remember my HR dept said they acknowledge the process but got denied...well, we got our PPR and hopefully soon COPR, so I may try to get my HR to put it through again - I still find it weird that MSP themselves say yes and no and yet it's documented to be yes.

I do remember. Glad to hear that you're even closer to CoPR now!

All I can say is that I now have the card, so if I was able to win the argument (prior to AIP) others can too!

is it something unique for BC that MSP kicks in right after application is received? for ontario they dont accept anything till AIP.
