Any Real Benefits of Marriage?

I'm a permanent resident of Canada. My boyfriend is a Dutch citizen. We have been living together for over a year in my parent's home. We would like for him to apply for a permanent resident card in a few weeks. We know we want to spend the rest of our lives exclusively with each other but marriage has never been an option. My question is, would there be any benefits of getting married?

Marriage Certificate is definately a benefit lol
Maybe, I am wrong but marriage is not a "package of benefits". If you mean benefits while applying for permanent residency over common-law, then in my opinion it is easier to prove to CIC, as you have legal papers stating your marriage! But in general, cic won't care if it is marriage or common-law as long as you have sufficient proof of your relationship! Good luck

if u have enough common-law proofs (see the examples from their guides, forms and manuals) then no need to get married; in canada it's easy to have most of those proofs, so u can still gather them until u apply; for common-law u'll have to prove ur continuous cohabitation for at least 1 year (a little more work) where for the marriage u don't need that; but for both u need to prove ur relationship!!!

also u will have to sign the statutory declaration of common-law which is like a marriage certificate but for common-law; u could also have common-law ceremony, reception but if it's not in ur culture than don't!!

actually if it's not part of ur lifestyle and plans to get married than don't!!! don't do something just for the sake of this application!! they will not look at the application differently because u r not married, they will just process it in a different category when the day comes to get married it should b for yourselves only!! good luck!!
