I see that you're landed, so do you mean you want to notify the City of Los Angeles? My husband is from California and we were also married in Canada, but we haven't notified the city where he lives that we were married here in BC. Do you want to register your marriage for genealogical purposes?

I thought that we had to notify California that we got married, for tax purposes, etc. Any ideas on this?

I know Americans must still file their taxes even if living overseas, but my husband hasn't notified the state that he is married (for tax purposes) so unfortunately I'm no help. Good question, though. I've never seen an American tax return, but I would assume there would be a box to check for marital status? I also haven't informed Canada Revenue Agency yet that I am married, but when I file my taxes for 2012, I'll be filing as married.

I'm pretty sure the only reporting of your marriage that needs to take place is when you file your taxes.

Yep. When you go to file, you just check "Married" and that'll be all he needs to do :)
