Anti-climax?! McCallum hinted at much higher targets for 2017!

i guess this part of the constitution of Canada confused me s.16(1) - "English and French are the official languages of Canada"
yes but thay in some way, there are anglophones provinces, one is francophone and there are two bilinguals. Despite what the federal government say provinces autorities have the right to stablish thier rules ehen it comes to official language. Those provinces compose the whole canadian territory and that is why canada (combination of different provinces) there are two languages cuz canadians who dont speak english deserve to receive services in french and vice versa

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Brunswick. This province is officially bilingual under their own regulation. Residents here have the right to receive any government information, education, in english or french. Quebec can refuse to provide certain services in english since they are not an anglophone province under their regulations. This creates a lot of confusion but they just do it cux they want to preserve the language, as you may know french is a minority but let me tell you quecois in mortreal and quebec city people speak english and they are nice if you struggle with french they help you.

live is cheaper in quebec. they have miminum wage based on quality of life. in a more expensive province you can expect to have a higher wage. and yes i am from canada and no im not a french speaker, that you dont like quebec or the fact that they can bring whatever the amount of immigrants they please at year is something else but it is ok i respect that. your point view.
Your posts confuse me so much.

So you're Canadian? not a french speaker... and judging by your posts English is not your first language either.

I don't get it :/

This thread is somehow become about the pros and cons of living in Quebec which I'm pretty sure was not the intent of the original poster. It is true that the overall immigration target remain the same but it is my understanding that they expect the majority of the 300000 new immigrants to come from family class and through economic programs (express entry). I've only skimmed the articles myself but I did read somewhere that the target for the economic programs have been increased by 23% even though the overall immigration target remains the same. I'm fairly certain I'm correct about this but don't quote me. If I find the articles I will post the links.

Good. They should be cutting the targets, not raising them. Unemployment in Canada is high enough.

You looking affordability in housing, food, cultural activities, then quebec is theprovince. They also have the best university of canada tuition is no more than 3000 dolars at year for a master degree if you are a quebec PR or french citizen
Their taxes are also ridiculous. Sure, prices are cheaper, but it's not worth it. Quebec is the place to retire, not the place to work.

If you have followed the news, you can see McCallum and Trudeau Jr. had faced many challenges in the Parliament and their own party when they announced they wanted to boost the immigration quota and brought more refugees in.

One of my post in September:

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/annoucement-for-new-changes-might-be-delayed-more-refugees-are-coming-t452647.0.html

Plus there were no climax at all. Recommendations are just recommendations, they are not final decisions, and more importantly, they came from a group of businessmen and bankers, who always love to have more cheap workers.
That is right ! Agreed !

Just add Lawyers (immigration, taxation etc related) and other judiciary related people, who would like to make such recommendations. After all it is their bread and butter !!

they will remain the same or they will raise them. They are not cutting the target. They are trying to attrack people to the atlantic provinces where population is really reduced, I dont know how they will do it but they feel they need to balance population all across they country.

agreed. both liberals and conservatives r in favor of increasing the targets. Chris Alexander ex immigrantion minister who is running for conservative leadership has said to look at 400k target. Immigration has to increase but needs to increase in the deficiency professions.

If the government really want more workers in the Atlantics, they don't even need to offer PR right away to everyone. Just create a new Work Permit program exclusively for the Atlantics, like issue a 4-year open but province bound WP for anyone who willing to work and stay at these provinces.

After 4 years, if a worker can provide pay stubs, T4, employment records and address to prove that he/she has contributed to the Atlantics, then issue PR to them. Once people have stable jobs, car to drive, kids in school, and house to mortgage in the Atlantics, they will not leave for BC or Ontario anymore. Right now, it doesn't make sense to let them use Atlantics PNPs as a backdoor to move into BC or Ontario where we have more than enough workers.
