It all started with statements that QC somehow is only province that likes immigrants, has government, is independent and livable. That is why the discussion has been going hot.
Here some facts:
Minimum wage per hour
QC - 10.75, there are only 4 provinces with lower min wages (NB, SK, NFL, NS) and it is only up to 25 cents lower. other provinces and territories have something from 10.85 to 13.00.
Unemployment rate in QC is higher than in the other "major" provinces.
Rent on average is cheaper in QC, not because their system is so good, but because the income is on average lower and the demand is too. The quality of those houses and apartments is also often a problem. If you rent a house without decent insulation, which is very very common in QC, you might end up paying up to $300 monthly bill for your hydro if the house has an electric heating system.
As for food, milk for instance costs around 6.20 in QC, whereas in ON the same thing is 3.99.
The problem with language everybody brings up is not because the lack of desire to learn French, it is because Canada is bilingual, some places have a dominant language, but only in QC you have language police taking down signs written even in two languages where the French version does not go first and isn't 70% larger in font. This is not promotion and protection of local culture, it is very draconian and reflects the overall strong nationalistic mentality.
