How long are applications in Turkey taking?

Would it be better to apply in Turkey, then come to Canada on a visitor visa (she is here in college on student permit) until the process is done?

Thanks for your answers guys.

Do you also know how long it usually takes from 'Background check in progress' to 'Passport Request' for Ankara office?
It depends on the country you are applying from (How fast the country responds to the Canadian embassy's request for security check), your travel history (Extensive travel history takes longer to process if the embassy requires a security check in every country where you have lived more than 6 months).

That may complicate the process, the applications time for ankara changes between 9-12 months every so often. You may possibly think about doing an Inland application from within canada since she is already there, as she will be able to stay with you in Canada. I believe they even give work permits for spouses who are applying from within until the application has a decision made. Inland applicants do take longer though, usually past 2 years.

The reason we want to apply outland is because that would make the process much quicker allowing her to pay domestic fees in a Canadian university.
International tuition is way too expensive. We want her to be able to pay domestic tuition as soon as possible.

Hi Pooya,

They started processing our case in Ankara on Aug 10th (file was trnsfered Aug 2nd). They asked us to send IMM5562 and Iran police certificate on Sep 8th. a month after they received these two documents the back ground status changed to "in progress" on Oct 25th. IMM5562 is not listed for Ankara and is only mentioned for applicants from Paris. But they asked us and two other applicants from this forum for this form. Also we got a second email today Nov 15 asking for another police certificate from Iran. Do you know how long the Iranian police certificate is valid for? I don't think it says anything on the certificate itself. We have no clue why they ask for PCC again or if they received the previous PCC but they must have as they are not requesting for IMM5562 anymore and we have a proof from the courier service that it was delivered.

Hi everyone..

I am new to this website.
I have applied for sponsorship of my wife in Iran. Here is the application timeline:
Application sent June 5th, 2016
Sponsorship approval August 4th
Request for document from Ankara Octobor 3rd
(they requested an updated Police certificate)
Background Check in MyCIC account changed to 'In Process' November 4th

Do you guys have any idea what we can expect from now on?

All the best,

Since your background check changed to in progress on Nov 4th you will hear something from them within 3-4 weeks. Hopefully by end of Nov and hopefully that will be passport request.

Since they asked for a police certificate in August and then again in November, I guess they are good for 3 months.

I read the following from CIC website. But for Iranian certificates and Ankara I am confused with Validation time? I am surprised they asked Pooya for a new one as well.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/intro.asp

Who needs a police certificate?

In general, you and all the people in your family who are 18 or older need to get a police certificate. You must get one from each country or territory where you have spent six or more months since the age of 18. For example:
•if you visited, worked or lived in a country for two months, left for a few years, then returned for four months, that counts as spending six months there. In this case, you would need a certificate.

For the country you currently live in, the police certificate must be issued no more than six months before you apply.

For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country.

If your certificate is in a language other than English or French, send it when you apply, along with the original copy of a translation done by a certified translator.

Oh, that's surprising that they have asked for police certificate twice from you. Did you guys send the original of police certificate as well?
My possible mistake during initial application submission was that I only included translation (which ofcourse included a certified copy of original). Before, I was thinking maybe the reason they asked for a new one was that original was missing in initial submission, but now I am hearing your story. This is crazy, why they are repeatedly asking for this thing.
Have you tried to contact them?
I hope your case gets sorted out fast.

Good luck to all of us,

Hello Everyone, I have applied for my wife who is iranian under outland sponsorship. The Mississauga office received our app on Oct.24/2016 and I got AOR1 on November.11/2016. Now waiting for SA. I was just wondering if anyone from Iran has applied for a visitor visa while their sponsorship application is in process and what was the outcome? Any tips anyone would have regarding applying for a visitor Visa? I have a medical surgery in December and want to have her here with me. Whats the chances of her getting a visitor visa?

Thanks everyone

yes we sent both, the original and official translation with the translator, ministry of justice (dadgostari) and ministry of foreign affair stamps. I am thinking maybe a new officer is taking over and he/she has no clue what is going on.

I checked the original Iranian police certificate if has no expiry date so I think they should be valid at least for six months.

I read cases which were rejected for visitor visa before in the forum, but since you have an emergency if you provide strong proofs from your doctor/hospital, they may accept her visa.

I sent a specific enquiry asking why we are asked to send police certificate again but no reply yet. I don't know if they reply to specific enquiries if the application is still within the processing time.
