Hi everyone.

I hope all is well.

I am born in the philippines to a naturalized canadian citizen(my father). He obtained his citizenship before i was born. I am now 30 and he is 67. I am in manila and i want to apply as canadian citizen through the canadian consulate in the philippines. What sort of documents to i need to submit? If i am eligible, how long does the process take assuming all req. docs are submitted?

I want to have a dual citizenship and canadian passport.

My father said he lost his canadian citizenship certificate.

Based on scenario 3, it is a requirement.

Can we submit his canadian citizenship card instead? Or canadian citizenship card is non negotiable? It doesnt specify on the website.

Please help.

Your father didn't lose it if he still has his Canadian citizenship card. That's the one with picture ID on it, right? IRCC has stopped issuing Canadian citizenship card and replaced it with Canadian citizenship certificate (no photo ID). You can use your father's Canadian citizenship card.

On a side note, not sure how your father managed to have both Canadian citizenship certificate and Canadian citizenship card same time. It is a requirement to return the citizenship card when your father applied for Canadian citizenship certificate. You have the option to send the original Canadian citizenship card or send in a certified copy of your father's card.

1. No, actually previously you were issued a presentation citizenship certificate (not valid for travel) and a citizenship card at the ceremony.

Thank for enlightening me. I wasn't aware that they gave out two documents at the time.

So my father can just have his card notarized as certified true copy and i can submit that as one of the documents correct? Even the card itself is not on the application? Theres no need for his citizenship certificate since since notarized card itself is adequate?
