You were called in after, but still refused you on what grounds? My husband and I are contemplating yet another trip to the embassy to advocate for ourselves. We are at a loss as it seems they are making us wait 2 yrs. 1 year since interview is coming up and it's been long enough.

with all due respect, your timeline says started October 30, 2014. This thread is for those who were denied and appealing. Were you previously denied ?

Yes I've been on this thread since we appealed. In June 2015. I can read. It was the other I was questioning.

Hey Guys,

I am curious to know, if sponsor is Canadian citizen, do they still refuse family visa to spouse?

If you Canadian permanent resident, sure you can sponsor your spouse.

It is based on whether they believe your marriage is genuine or not. Being either a PR or a citizen is irrelevant.

i think you do have to be a citizen or at least a pr in order to be able to sponsor anybody to canada...so it is rather relevant. if you have no legal right to reside in canada there is no way you can sponsor anybody does not matter if you have a genuine relationship or not. i am pretty sure that a visitor or a person on student visa can not sponsor anybody.

We were refused on the grounds of marriage not genuine. Also they thought I was related to his uncle in law but the person doing our paper work messed up on his uncle last name being the same as mine

it is very difficult to say how much longer. In my case....we had to wait 20 months. Most cases are completed faster. Best to look at it this way....every day means 1 day sooner you will be with your loved one. Its so difficult ! But you must remain strong !

Gsize how come yours took so long after your appeal is allowed?

What I was saying is that it does not matter if you are a PR or if you are a citizen. PR sponsors are not treated differently or their foreign spouses put through more scrutiny solely based on their Permanent Resident status in Canada opposed to a sponsor who is a citizen of Canada.

I was simply answering SV670's question and I am well aware you need to be a PR or a citizen to become a sponsor.

Spousal cases are being processed as fast as 4 months now....i'm happy for all the applicants but it breaks my heart that had we waited few more months then the situation would have been completely different from what it is now... I hope this misery ends soon.
