I have seen people on H1b (with i140) waiting for their U.S. born kids (U.S. citizen by birth) to grow up, and then sponsor them (parents) for GC when they turn 18. Still 18 years is much less than 50 years. It sounds so depressing.

My priority date is from March 2012, back then it seemed i would get GC in 5 years, its 2017 now and by today's calculations it will take another ~5 years since the current dates for eb2 are 2009. I really don't want to wait till 2022 and then wait 5 more years and so on. This whole greencard wait thing sucks big time. On the other hand you see people who can't even speak proper English coming in and getting GC in 5 months on Eb1. It hurts so much to see the look of surprise, confusion, pity and smugness on their faces when they understand my situation.

She needs to apply through express entry like everyone else, mean time continue her life like the usual.


Pre requisites for applying are IELTS and WES (equivalency for her educational certificates)

I am sure you know since you are PR


if she doesn;t have experience she should then maybe go and do masters there and then apply through EE

I understand that it hurts when we are patiently waiting in decades long queue and other people can fool the system and break the queue to get in front.

The green-card wait is complete mess. It is illegal for employers (and everyone) to discriminate based on nationality. But when it comes to GC, government openly discriminates against Indians (and Chinese). The government policies are to blame for this, for creating separate super-slow queues for Indian and Chinese (and giving GC immediately to people of all others countries). For restricting number of GC for Indians to just 2,800 per year.

My only hope with U.S. GC is HR392, a bill currently in U.S. congress, and backed by ~200 congressmen (lawmakers) which removes this discrimination altogether and make it a single queue, first-come-first-serve. Lol, I think it's quite feasible that I will be in the same boat. Based on the past couple of years, my PD of 2015 will probably be current in 2030. Sad part is, I don't see it changing by any means. I appreciate the efforts some organizations like IV and SIIA are doing, but I doubt they will get the results. If you think about it, the government doesn't want it to change, the employers don't want it to change, the american citizens don't want it to change. Hence, very low motivation for the lawmakers to act on it.

I think Canada has a sensible approach for this, completely skills based immigration. Even then we see so many people migrating from India, at least they are skilled in what Canada is looking for. They should be looking for people with very high education and/or skills in particular fields that they have a need for.

But then with 1200 million people, even if you take just the top 1% as skilled labor that have the right attributes to migrate, you get a potential immigrant size of 12million!

Canada's entire population is 36mm, almost the same as California.

But, you know what, I feel it is just too good to be true.

I would like to know frank answers from senior members over here if there is any catch in both these countries being "generous" to immigrants.
I have read about people on PR in Canada doing odd jobs just to survive.

I mean, at least in US, I am doing the job that relates to my education.
I totally agree that the immigration system in US is broken beyond repair.

So, as an Indian immigrant, are CAN and AUS the only options?

You always have the option of looking for a job first, then moving to Canada permanently. In worst case, consider this step as an insurance, in case something goes wrong in the US, with your employment, immigration status or even political environment. If you have a fall back plan, it will spare you a lot of stress. I started with similar thought process as yours, but as time goes, I am feeling more and more confident about moving to Canada. We'll see what the final outcome is
