My wife is 52 and I am 45

She wants to study in Canada and I am hoping to get a spousal work permit on the back of her study permit, or to get a direct job offer.

Can anyone advise (and more importantly point me to the page on the CIC website) showing any age limits on her obtaining a study permit.

If she gets accepted will I have to go through a points system or will I automatically get a spousal work permit?

Will be most likely applying when she is 53 and start her course when she is 54

I am an IT Consultant and she will be studying Nutrition in Vancouver

Thanks
Roger

There is no age limit on study permits. However the older you are, the more difficult it can be to convince CIC you are a genuine student. The program your wife plans to take in Canada must make sense in light of her previous education and also her work experience. She'll also need to show she has ties to her home country and has no plans on remaining in Canada long term. Additionally, she must show she has enough money to pay for her studies and living expenses. Make sure she plans to attend a public college (not a private college) if she wants to get a PGWP once her studies have been completed.

You will not automatically get a work permit. You will be entitled to apply for a work permit. Whether that work permit is approved or refused will be up to CIC (we do see plenty of refusals here). To be approved, you will need to demonstrate strong ties to your home country.
