My canadian husband is 28 years old older than me we are just married we have been dating 2 years but didnt live together just met twice a year. We are planning to spend honeymoon in Prague next year and apply for wife visa after our honey moon. I love my older husband . I feel more loved more appreciated and more understood in this relationship than I have in any other realtionship I have had in my life.We have unusual situation but I think everything will be fine . I'm russian by the way. and it's more difficult for us to prove that our relationship is genuine because a visa officer will say '' she definitly has and immigration purpose!!!'' ;D
Hi Ekaterina,

Congratulations on getting married and good luck with the sponsorship process. Before you apply, please read the webpage I mentioned in Reply #5 above.

Toally agree!!! It's kind of sad!!! That we live on a society where there is so many races, taste and more where we are "free" to pick and choose who we want to be with, but if you choose something that most people do not think is right. Then it's not ok... What happen with freedom of choice!! Love doesn't see age!!! You can help who you fall in love with, or who you have more things in common!!!
:)
You may do yourself some good to research and understand the difference between 'discrimination' (a hate driven action) and 'red flag' (a procedural action driven by a consistent background).

If Canada is so 'discriminatory' perhaps you should reconsider living here.

I'm Canadian and I agree with her. So should I reconsider living here too?

Nobody is saying that everything in Canada is discriminatory, just that we consider this aspect of the immigration process discriminatory. And criticizing something in Canada means that you think it can be improved, not that you think everything is necessarily perfect in your own country.

Frankly, I don't like it when I hear people tell prospective immigrants that they have to agree with everything from A to Z or not come here, particularly when they're coming here to be with someone they love. One of our basic liberties in Canada is freedom of thought, and when people come here from somewhere else they're entitled to that right too.

And frankly, I don't like it when people don't understand the meaning of discrimination and throw it around when their feelings are hurt or they don't agree with the government's policies.

True discrimination isn't something to be made light of...... and I guess until you've truly dealt with it on a personal basis, it will be difficult for someone to understand.

For the record, the age difference red flag is because of criminals. People who have cheated the system and abused Canadians to enter Canada. If you're going to have beef with anyone, aim it towards those people. They are why others have problems......

I don't intend to address the substance of your argument any further, because I already have (see what I said about racial profiling) and I think it would be pointless to try to get you to see things any other way than your own.

What you're saying is that if I don't agree with you, it can only be because I don't understand. I don't think you're really respecting that someone can have a different opinion than you.

And in no case does having a different opinion than Amikety (or even the government) mean that someone shouldn't live in Canada.

Thanks for misunderstanding what I said and twisting it to fit your own goals. It had nothing to do with opinions.

Arguing about whether it's discrimination or not is one thing, but here is what I thought was particularly inappropriate:

That's entirely based on your interpretation of my tone.

I was asking a serious question...(without actually asking). I do not understand why people come to this site and go on and on about how horrible Canada is for whatever reason (there's many) but still want to move here. I don't understand their motivations.

If one would come back and say "It's illegal for us to live together in the other country because of religious laws - we'd be killed - or the other country is strife with civil war." I would understand completely.

If it's entirely preference... then I am confused by the motivations still. (I don't expect to understand the inner workings of another's inner mind, only a glimpse when allowed.)

I'm not disagreeing with the ability to critique ones own government (or potential government) as this is part of the checks and balances system that is supposed to keep a democracy balanced and fair.

Canada remains one of the easier countries to immigrate to... despite the bumps.

I didn't hear her go on and on about how horrible Canada is. What I saw was that she thought there was something wrong with the immigration procedures. I agree with her on that, as I think many Canadians would - not you, I know that, and not the government.

And she's not even saying that she thinks her own country's immigration procedures would be better. She could disagree with both countries' procedures. That never came up.

So I really have difficulty following your reasoning that she should maybe reconsider coming here to be with her husband.
