Afghanistan Spouse Sponsorship thru India

Hi guys,

I filled Apps to sponsor my wife from Afghanistan Visa office which is in Charge of Afghanistan is CHC Islamabad Pakistan.

I filled Apps on Oct, 8th 2013
CIC Mississauga received it on the Oct, 9ths, 2013
App Processed and Approved on the Oct, 24th, 2013
Apps Forwarded to New Delhi India instead of Islamabad Pakistan on the 24th Of Oct, 2013

In my application I had told them that my wife is on her 4th week of pregnancy..

In the letter I received from CIC it states that " you have met the requirements for the eligibility as a sponsor. Accordingly, the Application for Permanent Residence for your relative(s) has been forwarded tot a visa office abroad fir further processing.

NEW DELHI High Commission of Canada

This Visa Office was selected based on your relative's home address and the requirements of the imigration and refugee protection Act. "

Now I was wondering if that have taken a special consideration for my case because of my wife's pregnancy or is Applications from Afghanistan is being processed thru Delhi India now? ..

If anyone else had a similar case please share it and let us know how it went... Also if Afghans can share their timeline like how long it took them took them to sponsor their spouses would be greatly appreciated..

It is s good thing that they forward ed it to India. Yet it is strange why they did it. I personally don't know anyone who experience d this. Call afghan consulate in Toronto and ask them. Chanced are they know as many go there to get police clearance for their spouses.
Brother wish you best of luck and may your wife's sponsorship be over in short period.

I've seen a few files sent to New Delhi by mistake. Send them a CSE to make sure it isn't a mistake, because that could delay things.

It shouldn't have gone there, unless your spouse is currently living in India (or Bhutan, or Nepal). There aren't any special considerations for pregnant spouses, it's probably a mistake.

I checked with Afghan Consulate in Ontario, they said its a good thing I should be happy. Recently CIC is forwarding some applications to New Delhi India instead of Islamabad due to huge work load that is building up in Islamabad.

I am really happy ;-) As far as processing of applications goes for India, It takes 11 months Max in India but most cases are processed within 4 months..


Praying for all my Afghan brothers and sisters to get their approved quickly as well..

Brother that is great. For peace of mind I would call cic call centre here in Canada as well and explain the situation and see what they say, whether they do indeed forward it and that it is not a mistake.

yes u should call CIC coz CIC now days by mistake sending application to new dehli instead of islambad even one pakistani applicantion got this issue and when she contacted CIC they shifted her file to islamabad

Hello ,

I started my husband file from India , but now its a big mess they did approved the 1st stage and i got a letter about 2 years ago stated that my file has been transferef to India but after 5 months they transfered it to Islamabad because my hausband is Afghan citizen and since then my file is a big mess, many time documents was lost, new address was updated after many fax and emails. I dont know why CIC transfered your wifes file to India unless she is living in India from Long time then it should be ok, I GUESS ...

Its all good guys, just now received an email from New Delhi requesting for her passport and an address in India so they can process my application faster.. I had a refugee claim and won that 12 years ago, because of that any member of my family gets special treatment because immigration doesn't want them to face any danger, and its their first priority.. That is according to the Refugee protection act..

Have you confirmed with them that this isn't a mistake?

New Delhi sends the passport request immediately to everyone. It doesn't mean that anyone has actually looked at the application yet. They ask everyone for the passport up front "to accelerate the process", but that doesn't mean anything.

8 Passport received not yet Done,

Hey guys, my brother submitted his wife's sponsorship application on December 16th 2013 and got letter from CIC on January 27th 2014 that her file has been transferred to New Delhi, India. She lives in Afghanistan and on her application my brother chose Islamabad visa office, they still sent it to India. He called call center and agent told him that he had no idea (because if the file gets sent abroad then they wont have any info on the case) but assumed that It was to reduce workload from Islamabad office.

Also there was a rumor among Afghans living in Canada that processing time is 9 months now, I didnt believe and kept telling people that its no less than 2 years from Afghanistan. Hopefully I was wrong.

Hey Guys!

I got really amazed when I saw this thread because I have similar case!

My wife lives in Afghanistan and I sent application to sponsor her on September 06, 2013. On September 24, 2013 i received a letter that I'm eligible to sponsor a family class member and that they sent my application abroad (Islamabad, Pakistan) for further processing.

On January 27, 2014, I received another similar letter like the previous one but instead it says that they have now sent my application to New Delhi, India. I got really shocked when I heard that news but at the same time I got happy when I check the processing times for New Delhi is only 12 months compare to Islamabad is 32 months!!!

So, can anyone please tell me if this case would follow the processing time for India or for Pakistan???

If u see in CHC-ISB thread 2012-2013 there are many other ppl that have received similar letters from CIC about their files being transferred to london or new delhi.... london n new delhi embassies are among the top busiest Canadian embassies in the world so its not clear how diverting these applications would help.... during the PAFSO strike last year both of these embassies were shut down as part of a work stoppage while islamabad was still operating at reduced capacity...

Its hard to say which timeline would apply.... the timelines to begin with are not really accurate as they're based on past information..... n last year the processing times were greatly affected due to the PAFSO strike.... future applications should not have to endure any such delays....

At some point the applications would have to come back to Islamabad cuz I doubt london or new delhi has the ability to conduct background checks etc for islamabad applications.....

One thing is clear that islamabad is really overwhelmed with the backlog of applications.... atleast CIC has acknowledged this fact now n seem to be doing something about it....

Best to check on "sending passport" issue because how can you send passport across borders in south-asia, because Pakistan and India do not allow mailing of passports outside country.

This is something you should make sure about with CIC, either through your MP or via Canadian mission in New Delhi......

personally i think they should open their embassy in Kabul for Afghans for faster processing. It is a big hassle for Afghans to go through Pakistan, not to mention the hassle and costs.

Salam everyone! i am in the exact same situation!!
i applied in nov 2013, got approved as a sponsor end of nov 2013 and my case was sent to Islamabad (my husband lives in kabul)
then exactly a week ago i got the same email saying to disregard previous communication and that my case will now be proccessed in new dehli

i am excited because i hope for the best and feel like this means our cases may be completed faster inshallah
