Hi All,

My husband is Canadian citizen and he has applied for my PR application (processing center: Buffalo). I am planning to move to canada on visitor visa before receiving my PR. How can I change my address for the application?

CIC website is differentiating based on "in canada" and "outside canada". I am not sure where I belong on this differentiation.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Do you need a visa to enter Canada? What is your country of citizenship? The answers to your questions will depend on that.

Alright so the problem is that your sponsorship application was sent to Mississauga because you did an outland application. If you need to do an inland application, your file has to be sent to Vegreville, in Alberta. If you do inland processing, it takes much longer and you cannot work until you get your permanent residence or a job offer from someone to make you eligible to get a work permit. You can still keep your file as "outland" since you have a Canadian visa. However, chances are high that you'll have to go to an interview at a Canadian consulate in the US. Since your HB4 will NOT be valid once you leave the US, you will have to apply for a US tourist visa to go to the US for your interview. Just move to Canada, change your address with CIC and apply for a US tourist visa once you are in Canada.

If you're being processed in Buffalo, you're "outside Canada." I don't know at what stage your application is, but I suggest being in contact with someone at your former address because it's not uncommon that CIC does not actually change your address upon being notified and you want to know if you've received anything from them. If you provided your email, though, you should be getting a good number of correspondence through that. The sponsor receives notice of being approved by CPC-Mississauga and the principal applicant receives correspondence once the file is in Buffalo (in both cases, it is very frequently by email). Buffalo tends to do a lot by email, but if they send you a request for documents (or perhaps for an interview request, which is not uncommon for non-U.S. nationals) via regular mail, you definetely want to be on the lookout for that and having someone keep an eye out for that at your old address is a good way.

Thanks all for your help.

I got the file number and and the letter is showing jan 31st 2012 date.

What are the chances of getting an interview at Buffalo office? Is it possible that they will send PR and other documents on my canadian address?

Thanks

Since you are not visa-exempt for both the US and Canada, you will most certainly have to go through an interview at a Canadian consulate in the US. There are more than 90% odds that you will have to attend an interview, according to all the people who were in a case similar to yours, meaning they were not visa-exempt for North America...
