Yes exactly. Lawyers don't normally inform their clients of errors or returned applications. Instead they lie and beat it round the bush. Again request the courier tracking # and also your application reciept#. Something just dont add up and smells fishy
Try Connecting Ecas to see what is there... if you have application number or uci you can do it. Just do not forget to write all details of your husband and his last name from capital letter.

This makes sense to me, and is the likely story.
Whatever the reason, IRCC only started looking at it recently so your true timelines are not that off.
