hi aspire,
ur a nurse too?does ur wife works there too as a nurse and is having same lenght of experience?i only done bedside nursing for a year back in 2004, worked as clinical instructor for a year also and im currently working as nurse instructor/lecturer for NCLEX and CGFNS. d kaya manitoba and all other territories grant eligibility to take licensure based on actual bedside care?im kind of worried and also not very sure with what to write in the form that asks us to document our actual nursing practice for the past 5 years.do they mean actual bedside nursing? or do i include my teaching nursing subjects as well?

anyone may also comment...
Yes we both have the same years of experience but I am not a nurse. But I have read my wife's actual nursing practice that she wrote in her Manitoba registration application. They are her duties per hospital and per area of assignment that she did in the past and current job. Something like:

Following doctors order
Administer medicines to patients
patient care
IV insertion
Give contrast
post mortem care
Scrub and circulating nursing
charting
reporting to doctors regarding patient's condition
assisting to OR doctors
assisting to radiologists
provide CPR

... and many others that she did in her experiences in ER, OR, Radiology nursing, Angiography nurse, ortho ward.

...In my opinion your being a clinical istructor and NCLEX lecturer are as well related to job description of a nurse..so I suggest to write them all in your Manitoba eligibility application.

...but your present challenge now char is to convince the IO that you have the job desciptions that matches to that of a Registered Nurse NOC if you indeed applied under this NOC. I suggest you visit CIC website and check the NOC JD of an RN. One senior in the other forum who was a previous IO, said that the duty listed no. 1 in the list is the most important duty that a RN applicant should have in order to qualify.

Not really. Just the date/period of your employment (from when up to when) will do. It would also be worth mentioning whether it was for a full time or part time basis.

thanks for the response....

here's my situation.im working as a nurse instructor now.no probs wid the JD, it all matches the ones wid cic.i have read in the manual that we need to have a year of continuous experience and somewhere its written that we can have points for that and it has to be 37.5 hrs/ week.ill be turning 4 years by january 2010, so im working more or less 3 years and 9 months.i only need 3 years to get 67 points.my problem is im working part time and i only work 36hrs/ week, so there will be lacking hours, but still got extra 9 months, will they consider the the 9 months or just because i havent reached 4 years, they count it as just 3 years?

back in 2004, i have worked as nurse instructor as well for 6 months wid another employer with 42hrs/ week, the same JD but there is a 2 months gap between these two jobs. to sum up everything, i have worked for more than 4 years.

please note than i only need 3 years work experience to complete my 67 points

please help.any comment will be much appreciated...

Hi char_bonel,

oh ok.. for prior employers I have already experience certificates. for prior employer's job duties - I am going to provide them written explanation since they cannot provide.. my visa office is New Delhi.. as per them if you cannot provide job duties letter from your prior employers then can provide written explanation.. by means of that have prepared job duties of mine at earlier employers and my consultant will prepare a affidavit for the same.. which will be considered as a written explanation..

For current employer - have got the job duties letter already... will be collecting job ref letter from my supervisor..

hi mdarji,

i plan to take alberta licensure as well.all requirements and information are found at CARNA website.i find alberta licensure registration as easiest compared to others, but, of course its just my personal opinion, each of us got our own choices.the assessment will be based on preliminary review of documents.
others go through it,others dont.it depends on the documents submitted.

good luck!!

char_bonel,

Are you really willing to undergo SEC assessment? It's a really bloody process if you ask me. Having to do a combination of written, return demo exams and panel interviews, to think this is just an assessment if you will qualify to sit for yet another exam, which is the CRNE. Just a thought..

If you are aiming for Alberta you will definitely do the SEC first, especially in your case that you do not have a bed side experience. If you pass that, then that's the time you can get a temporary license and eventually qualify for the CRNE. If you do not pass it, depends on what the CRNA will ask you to do, either a bridging program or they'll allow you for a restricted temporary permit. You being a CI has its advantage though as it makes you still updated with the concepts and theories in nursing, this will come in handy on the written part of the exam. But do not forget that it is comprise majority of return demos on how to provide a bedside care or how to handle a medical situation in the ward set-up. So, this one I think you will need to brush yourself up as classroom or theoretical knowledge often differs on what is being done on the actual floor. My friend just took it and they did it with an actual person acting out as a patient pretending to be in distress, groaning and all that and he has to come up with a plan of action. Everything was being graded, his communications skills whether he was communicating therapeutically, judgement, what he 's doing to prioritize, decision making etc etc... It was really bloody I tell you.

Lastly, I do not think it's possible for nurses to get a job ASAP/ or do job hunting first thing upon landing to Canada as the registration process alone can take an indefinite amount of time. Not to mention all exams are to be taken there and the uncertainty of getting a passing score is there still.
