hi all,

i tried to email CNO about some questions.heres an email from Ontario College of Nursing

Thank you for your e-mail,

You do not need Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or immigration authorization to practise nursing to do the assessment or to take the nursing exam. Once you have passed the exam, in order to be eligible for registration, you will need:

provide proof of Canadian Citizenship, permanent resident status, or authorization under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) to practise nursing

You can use the same package if you would like to do an RPN assessment. Simply make the correction on the A1 form.

If you have any further questions, please contact us either by e-mail at cno@cnomail.org, by phone at (416)928-0900, 1-800-387-5526(toll-free in Ontario) or visit our office at 101 Davenport Road.

Sincerely,

Customer Service

hope this can be of help to those applying for Ontario

has anybody applied for license in Manitoba or Alberta? I received my IELTS result today and i achieved Speaking and Reading 7, Listening 6.5 and Writing 5.5 and overall 6.5. Will this be acceptable?

I read on the alberta website that overall must be at least 6.5 with 7 on speaking. The wesbite has been updated on October 9, 2009. Before that, they mentioned that you must have 6 on each component, overall 6.5 with 7 on speaking. I wonder if my result will be acceptable.

hi prospective,

i guess 6.5 overall and 7 speaking is good enough to qualify for licensure and i think it has to be a year old or less. i think there are some from this forum who did applied/are applying for manitoba or alberta.im applying for ontario.

all the best...

Hi Reydon,

For nursing registration purposes Academic IELTS is needed.
For Canada immigration purposes General Training IELTS is needed.

...so, for a nurse who is planning to immigrate to Canada and plans to practice his/her nursing profession there, both IELTS has to be taken.

In my own opinion...
i don't think you need to get both...

if you are a nurse...
it would be better to get ACADEMIC...
it's a double purpose...
both are ENGLISH TEST EXAMS anyway...

no need to take both
since you can use ACADEMIC for your registration
in their regulatory bodies...

i took academic ielts both for my immigration application and licensure application.those who dont plan to take licensure choose general because the reading and writing part are somewhat easier compared with that of academic.if i were you, ill take academic.

Hello guys,

This has been a topic in many different forums. Based on CIC guidelines and as per the advise of many senior members including Camilla from t r a c k i t General training IELTS is the requirement for immigration. The guideline did not mention that Academic IELTS is an acceptable option.

I would appreciate if someone could post that he/she submitted Academic IELTS and got thru with the process. If none, If I may advise especially those who are yet to submit full application to local visa office to submit General Training IELTS for immigration purposes. Please take note that IELTS is not yet considered at the CIO office in Nova Scotia, the guideline says so, myself got the approval from NS without submitting the IELTS, I submitted it only together with my full application to London visa office.

Nurses who are going to Canada on TRV are required to submit Academic. But for those who are going on PR visa, GT is the requirement.

It is not about which IELTS is easier or more difficult, It's about complying the requirement set by CIC.

Please refer to many threads discussing about IELTS...

God Bless.

Hi guys! Here is the link regarding General Training or Academic IELTS for immigration. It is in page 24 of the link provided below (OP6 for FSW) and let me quote a portion of it:

For the IELTS reading and writing tests there are "General Training" and "Academic Options". Only the General Training tests are accepted for CIC purposes.

hi aspire,
your right, tried to check the link , its true which stated...

the statement to me as i understand it may mean two things,
1. that general ielts is minimum requirement and an applicant may choose to take general training only
( because not everybody want to take academic)

or

2. that immigration only accepts general for cic purposes

i am yet to submitt my documents to local visa center.my consultant did not mention that i need to take general ielts.havent prove it personally but got friends who are nurses, now in canada and have submitted academic ielts both for immigration and licensure just not very sure how the rules have changed from january of 2008 till now.

thanks for the new info, i think i need to recheck with my consultant and abide with immigration laws.

sad, sad ,sad.i dont like to take ielts again!!!

In Canadian Immigration, they need the General Training.

When I applied in Canadian nursing in Ontario, I called and emailed them at the same time. They have the same answer: General or Academic IELTS WILL DO. The office stated that they both accept General and Academic IELTS.

IELTS requirement for nursing registration varies depending upon the province. In Manitoba they specifically mentioned Academic IELTS, but my friend who is an RN now in Manitoba submitted an expired TOEFL and was accepted.

For assessment/registration in Alberta, only Academic version is acceptable.
