choose the change address option, and press 0 to speak to an agent

Okay, i will try that. But wouldnt they get mad if i am calling for other reason and not changing address?

they wouldn't know what your calling about, you get transfered to a cic call centre agent, its just quicker to hit 2 for change of address and then 0 to get connected to an agent rather than listening to all those prompts if you hit 1, often time they will be so busy that the robot will tell you they can take calls, if thats the case keep calling until it transfers you through. When an agent picks up, the first thing i would tell them is that i want an update on my application and ask if you can give them ur UCI # or application number. Me as the principal applicant i have also been able to get through and get updates with no pushback from cic about why my sponsor isn't the one calling.

So I can call them even if I have no AOR or file number? I will try this later.

Tx rhCohen for your response. took me 4 tries to get through on the phone, plus a 16 minute wait on hold, hoping my Mexico carrier wouldn't drop the call, only to be told that I MET THE REQUIREMENTS FOR SPOUSAL SPONSORSHIP AND WAS APPROVED!!!!!!!! WOOOOOHHOOOOOOO! OMG What a relief! I was sweating bullets. I explained that the mail system here in Mexico is not trust worthy and we would likely not receive the letter and that we would appreciate very much if she could tell me what the result was.

I kindly asked if the file had been transferred already and she said it was too early to tell but that the transfer would occur within the next month (I think probably very soon)!

RYIT? You were right!! Thank you! You gave me a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel in a moment of desperation!

Best wishes to all!

cCastillo please update my color ;D

Congrats CANzanillo!

RYIT - Thanks for a quick response. I am literally freaking out here... I truly appreciate your optimism and certainly hope that our SA application was indeed approved. My concern is that there is a 50% chance it could be a denial, though I cannot image in a million years how that could be the case. It seems asinine to me that the CIC employee would choose to send a confirmation of approval to Mexico via regular mail if they knew even a little about how poor the mail system is here, especially when it is clearly documented in our application that we requested communication via email (which is confirmed by CIC in the very applications that we completed). Have they no empathy for the people they serve in this country??? (Don't answer that, I already know the answer!) >:(

We will probably NEVER receive that letter!! That is downright cruel!

Can I assume that we will receive an EMAIL confirmation of file transfer to the Mexico VO assuming I was approved?? Can I call to confirm SA??

Are you in Mexico or in Canada? Which VO did you call?

Hi Guys,

My application was recd on 30 Jan. I just recd AOR an hour ago.

I know we cannot access ecas now. But they have provided file no : FXXXXXXXXX. Do I need to input the whole file no. or exclude F and then enter file number.

Thanks for the help in advance and all the best guys :)

I am the Sponsor. I am a Naturalized Canadian Citizen just on a vacation here in the Phils cause I just gave birth in Canada. I just want my husband to be with our son even just for awhile :-[

I called them from Mexico yesterday to find out about my SA approval. I called 613-944-4000 press 1 until you get to select the address change option, then 0 to be transferred to an agent. After 16 minutes waiting the agent came on, asked me if I was inland or outland. I said outland. she asked me for my UCI# then proceeded to review the file notes for me. she was cordial, so was I, she answered my questions the best she could.

Give it a try! Good luck!

Edit: I see you tried calling that number. the agent didn't ask if I was in Canada, just inland or outland.

What if i dont have UCI number?

Could definitely be more challenging. Explain that you have not yet received any communication from CIC and are concerned that perhaps your application has been misplaced.

Do neither of you have a UCI? You would have one if you previously applied for other visa types i.e. study permit, visitor visa.

I just saw a post by tricia-chile in the Mexico forum who said that she had to phone to receive BOTH AOR & SA results from CIC. So it is possible that they can find out what is happening with your application. She also had them email her the AOR & SA.

Good luck on Monday!

Give them the receipt number which you should have gotten when you paid the government fees or give them either the principal applicants full name or the sponsors full name and they might be able to pull you up , my guess is if they can not pull you up they prob have not opened the application yet.
