Hi Folks,

I just received an e-mail saying that CIC concluded the processing of my application and I should hear from the Montreal Office. Could anyone give me an idea of what the next steps are and what I'm looking at in terms of the waiting time (estimate, naturally).

Thank you very much!

Thanks so much for that answer. I think that settles the question.

The form says, "To determine if you must complete this section, see the definition of “family member” in the Guide for Sponsored Persons, Section 1 (Definitions)," and the guide says:

so we are not listing parents or siblings of the principal applicant. The Formulaire d'Engagement is clearer when it says, "Ne pas inscrire le nom des membres de votre famille qui sont citoyens canadiens." I was talking about the "Application for Selection Certificate – Family class" (which, for some reason, is in English), but the two forms have to agree.
Haha, so I guess I did that part wrong. Thankfully, they didn't make me redo it. One note: when you get your copies of the CSQ (MICC sends one to CIC, so you don't have to, but they provide an extra copy in case CIC doesn't receive the one MICC sent), MICC also returns your full Formulaire d'engagement, signed by an official. That is your undertaking, and you definitely want to keep that in a safe place! You will be asked to bring your undertaking to your landing appointment.

Hi zeca,
If your e-mail says 'We are pleased to advise you that processing of your application has been completed. The Canada Immigration Centre in Montreal will contact you concerning your permanent resident status.', it's a good sign! It's a positive DM. ;)

The next step is ..... just waiting again. Maybe, the Montreal office will send you a confirmation letter. If you receive it, you need to send it back soon with 2 photos for PR card. (Some people didn't get the confirmation letter.) And then, you will receive a letter about your landing interview.

You must bring the following documents at the interview:
1. Your valid passport and/or
2. The original of your identity document(s) provided to the CPC-V or to the local Canada Immigration Centre
3. All your immigration documents ---- OWP, study permit, visitor visa and so on.
4. Proof of 'undertaking' issued by MICC
5. CSQ
6. You have to be accompanied by your sponsor/spouse, your sponsor has to provide an ID document with picture.
7. SIN card beginning with 9 ---- If you have.
8. 2 photos ---- If you don't receive the confirmation letter and if you don't send 2 photos.

About 2, I don't know this. I just brought my passport and no problem.

I can't tell you when you receive these letters and when you have a landing interview. It might happen within one month after DM or it might take more.

Tomorisu, I appreciate you taking the time to walk me through the process. Thank you! And yes, that's exactly the letter I received, and it is great to learn what it means!

MaxLet, thank you for the reply too. It looks like we are in the same batch. I will let you know whenever I have updates.

Best of luck to everyone.

Thanks to your earlier advice, I finally decided to apply outland rather than inland. I'm not sure if the procedures are quite the same in that case, but I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

There are some differences. Different forms, and the processes are structured a bit differently. However, NO DOUBT in my mind that, if I had it to do over again, I'd go outland. I was so frustrated at not being able to visit my family, and I'd have likely been done faster with an outland app. Wish I'd have found this forum before we submitted anything, haha! We screwed up a couple of things seriously, a few which I was able to fix before they cost me any more time (thanks to information I learned reading and posting questions on this forum), and one which delayed us by several months. Sure glad to have it all in the rearview, but I certainly have a list of things I'd have done different, in hindsight.

As far as outland differences go, I don't know if outland applicants are asked to present their undertaking at the landing. But there are outland threads here on the forum that can help you figure all of that out. Best of luck!

Finally I got my landmark interview and was able to receive my PR confirmation letter in 5 minutes. However, their computer systems were down and many people including myself were unable to obtain the SIN number(Assurance Sociale) today, I made a big fuss about it(respectfully of course), even spoke with their supervisor and they even made an exception just for me and tried to create my SIN from another station with no success. it was so frustrating because now I have to wait 2 months until I get my PR card to be able to file my taxes and to collect some money from the french courses. Pretty disappointing service after all for Service Canada in Montreal. Life goes on but they suck big time. Welcome to Quebec!

CONGRATULATIONS on becoming a permanent resident!

Sorry about the mess with the SIN. You might want to try going to a Service Canada office with your COPR, CSQ, and passport. I didn't get my SIN at landing (it was a small "traveling" office that came to my region; I landed in a hotel conference room, haha), and the officer specifically told me I could *NOT* get it until I had my PR card. However, a fellow immigrant in my French class told me she'd gotten hers with no problem. Went to the Service Canada office (muddled my way through in French, haha), and had no problem getting a SIN that day, with the card following about a week later.

Yes. I applied October 2012. The first communication we received was a letter in January 2013 acknowledging receipt and instructing us to get the CSQ.

Exactly, @Quebecokie, that's what happened to me.
I dont understand why cic has asked her to wait till AIP! she got AOR on september 2013! They are making her waste time!
Im totally confused! Have the instruccions change since the applications are now in Mississauga and not Vegreville?
I know that outlanders wait for AIP (sponsors aprouval) but,... inlanders?
weird...

I've no idea why this applicant is being told to wait for AIP. Seems completely strange to me, though I've long said the only thing consistent about CIC is that it's inconsistent. It's a huge waste of time, more for some than for others. I got AIP and DM same day. Having to wait until AIP to request the CSQ would have resulted in a wait of at least one month, and likely a couple of months or more. I don't imagine that the change from Vegreville to Mississaugua for inland applicants would change that part of the process, but I can't know for sure. If it were me, I'd probably just call and bug CIC over and over and over again until someone told me what I want to hear, i.e. that I could apply immediately for the CSQ with my AOR.

I do know that my AOR was different than some that others in ROC ("rest of Canada") received. It specifically had instructions for requesting the CSQ.

Hi everyone, Thank you MaxLet for guiding me here. They received our file on September 20th and we received the AOR on October 10th. Since then we haven't heard anything from CIC. But when we called on Monday, my husband called in french and I called in English, they said the sponsor needs to be approved in order for CIC to send the request for CSQ. Two of the agents said the same thing. I'm Japanese citizen... does that matter? :( I'm so confused... should I call them again?

I was checking MICC.

Have in hand your sponsorship letter or email from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) which confirms that your sponsorship is approved

If your sponsorship application is approved, CIC will notify you by letter or email inviting you to continue the process by submitting an undertaking application to the MICC and confirming the acceptance of your application.

This confirmation is very important since it constitutes proof that your sponsorship application was submitted to and approved by CIC.

* You must forward a copy of this confirmation (letter or email) to the MICC when submitting your undertaking application, accompanied by the fees payable and all required forms.

Is it changed then before?

I'm sorry, I really don't remember what the MICC site said when we applied in 2012. I know it was confusing as can be (I always say we applied in October 2012; actually, we sent in only the sponsorship app in August; MICC had confused us badly enough about their role in the process that we thought that was how it was done). I do know you absolutely have to have a letter from CIC before you can get your CSQ, since getting the CSQ as a family class applicant is different from the other classes.

Sorry, I wish I could be of more help.

If MICC has changed this, it REALLY pisses me off. I find the Québécois to be, in general, friendly and good people. I try to be understanding of Québec's quirks. However, they have already added $269 to the process that doesn't have to be paid in any other process. Now, if they require you to wait for AIP to request the CSQ, they are potentially costing Québec applicants more months in the already long PR process.
