- goes extremely stressed and check every paper have in the home office-
FOUND IT! :) OMG, you're right @QuebeCookie I DO need to breath!!!!
Almost imposible when you are so close to the end of a long road!!!

question: Can they still reject you at landing interview?
How long till Montreal will contact me, approx?

I Do have a little problem, in my country, married woman add the husband's last name to hers.
In my case I did the modification and in my Peruvian DNI (National ID) and my driver'S license (peruvian)
appears hubby's last name (and in any other document from my country too)
Only thing I havent update is my passport cuz I will have had to get a new one and it takes time so I didn't
wanted it to interfer with CIC. But when Im gonna renew my passport its gonna automaticly appear! (passport gets
ruled by DNI names)

I was wondering, whats gonna happen? Cuz CIC ask to take my passport to landing, and my passport says my maiden name
but next year when Ill renew it, it will say my married name. Not sure then how would it work?
Maybe CIC will understand and if I bring all my other peruvian documents they will use that name?

Otherwise, I will like to change my passport name now but means waiting for new passport which is aprox 45 days..
what if landing comes first???

Any help will be apreciate :)

Hahahahahahahaha! Sorry, I'm laughing WITH you, not AT you. :-* Glad you found the undertaking!

Oh h*ll. Québec and the name issues. I changed my name (took my husband's last name and dropped my maiden name) when we got married in the U.S. However, I didn't have time to change my passport before we moved. Québec forbids women to take their husband's names when marrying. My drivers license, social security card (like social insurance number here in Canada), and all other documentation is in my married name. Looooooooong story short, CIC will only issue your PR card in the name that's on your passport. This may cause some confusion down the line, but I've explained my issues to people, and I haven't had any real trouble. I now have both my maiden and husband's last names on my Québec drivers license to avoid any problems/confusion (for instance, my bank account lists only my married name).

Not sure how long it will take to get a landing appointment. Generally, you will receive a letter asking you to verify information on an attached form, and you have to verify the info and send it back (I think with a receipt for the RPRF, but not sure about that - it'll say in the letter). After you send that back, you'll get your appointment. Montréal isn't as slow as some of the offices. I'm guessing you'll land sometime in the next two months. For that reason, I personally wouldn't take the risk of sending the passport off for a name change. You can't land without your passport. You'd have to request to reschedule, and who knows how much of a delay or other problems that might cause.

thanks for your reply @ QuebeCookie and for still hanging around to solve our questions even when you already finish the process!
I was wondering about your signature! After your DM date, you state "quebec letter received" and "quebec letter resend"
what was this letter about? if you dont mind? plus, i recently moved, cic is already aware and all my snail mail gets here, but if im to expect a letter from quebec... should i call micc and change adress?

other subject, i have contact my consulate to try and know if they can accelerate the issue of my new modified passport (with hubbys name on it), im still waiting for an answer, they say standard takes 30 days for a new passport... im really hoping they can do it faster or before my landing :)

also, where you able to get a SIN right away with your COPR or did you have to wait till your PR CARD arrival?
thanks for all!

Now I can't remember if the letter came from CIC or MICC. I'm *pretty sure* it was from CIC, but can't remember, though I know it was sent to an office in Montréal. I think the only thing we dealt directly with MICC for was the CSQ and now my French classes. If you're getting your snail mail from CIC, you should be good to go. If you're really paranoid about it (I know how I was throughout this process!), you should check ECAS, then call CIC to confirm the address and ask if they share that info with MICC, or who generates the letter you receive prior to getting a landing appointment. After DM, Québec residents receive a letter with a form and are asked to check all the info on the form and send it back, I believe with PR card photos and the receipt for RPRF (sorry, it's been a while!).

Again, if I were you, I wouldn't take the risk. But that's just me. I was VERY risk-averse during this process. You may have name issues within Québec either way. For some things, they will only use the name on your birth certificate. Good luck figuring out the passport stuff!

I was specifically told by the officer at my landing that I could *NOT* get my SIN with my COPR, that I had to wait for my PR card. However, in speaking with another immigrant here in the area, she told me I most definitely could get my SIN with my COPR, that she had done so recently. I went to the Service Canada office and had very little trouble (all of my trouble was language-based; it's rare to encounter English-speakers up here, and my French is improving but still limited) getting my SIN. Got a letter with the number on the spot, and then received my SIN card about a week later.

Hi people, I`ve been sometime out from here trying to stress out all this process, finally I landed at montreal after 13 months of wait since AIP, like everyone says, it`s no big deal, just go wait they call your name, show documentation sign and that`s it, no more than 15 min.

For my question quebeccokie where did you go to apply for the social insurance number?, because the agent told me that maybe i can get one but when i went to services canada to ask they told me that I have to wait for the permanent resident card to arrive, again kinda stressfull but at least this kinda of stress is not bad...

I have NO FREAKING IDEA why a government office like Service Canada is so d*amned inconsistent. (Of course CIC's inconsistency should have prepared me for this, right?) Others on this forum have also reported difficulty in getting their SIN cards without their PR cards, and as I said, the officer at my landing interview told me that I could not get my SIN with just my COPR, which was false in my case.

I landed October 10, and I started French classes on November 18. It would have been some time before the beginning of December that another immigrant in my French class told me of her experience, and following her advice, I went to Service Canada with my COPR and was given my SIN. So it wasn't immediately after landing, but it was before I received my PR card.

If it's important to you, you might try another day with another agent? Or another Service Canada office, if there's one nearby? I went because there's a small stipend provided for immigrants taking French courses through MICC, and I was unable to get my stipend without a SIN. It's pretty ridiculous to wait all that time for PR, and then STILL not be able to work for 2 or 3 months as you wait for your PR card so you can get your SIN.

Are you still there? Mind telling me how long did you wait from DM to a letter from Montreal?
Were you ask to correct a letter or reply to it before getting a landing date? How long did it took?

@ QuebeCookie I cant thank you enough for all your replys and help! I contact my embassy and they say new passports take 10 days maximun. (regardless that in their web says 30 days) so I think im good to go. If I have yet to wait for a letter, reply to it and wait for a date i think i can do it :)

Hi Maxlet, in my case I checked through ECAS that I had DM and like 2 weeks later I got the DM letter with the landing date, and I didnt receive a letter to check my information, but maybe they were trying to hurry because I was waiting DM for 13 months since AIP, when I got there the agent told me that my case went pretty smooth because they asked me to redo medicals, police check (they lost the first one), so counting since I sent the documents to landing it`s been like 23 months, so like Quebecokie says, CIC is really inconsistent, we never know, there are people waiting like for 4-5 months just fot the LANDING letter after DM, I think I saw another one waiting for DM like for 4 years or something like that, it`s crazy, that`s why people here give you an estimate of how long it takes for their individual case, but like I said each case is separate and we cannot know for sure how much time applies for your file to process, sounds bad but everyone here is super stressed because of that.

I think our problem is that we think of CIC as a whole but the true is that your file passes hands from one agent to another and if one agent is not working like he should or maybe he is over saturated and that`s when we have delays in our applications.

I do know others have received the same letter requesting verification that I did, but I have NO idea if we were the general rule or the exception to the rule. I think, far more than the length of the process or confusion about forms or any other aspect, it's the d*mned inconsistency of CIC that is absolutely the most frustrating. Good luck!

Checked my Formulaire d'engagement. No, we did not include the sponsor's name. We left accompanying members blank. We included only my immediate (and unaccompanying) family members: mother, father, and sister (I'm the principal applicant) on the form.

Hi MaxLet, congrats on your DM! :)
Sorry, I wasn't here for a while, because I went to see my mom and came back to Quebec 3 days ago.

My DM was 28th October and the Montreal office sent me a confirmation letter on 7th November. I received a letter about the landing interview from Montreal on 20th November. My landing date was 28th November.

As QuebecOkie told you, CSQ is still important. Though I brought some documents at the landing, the officer checked only my passport, CSQ and the undertaking. After three questions, we signed on COPRs. (One is for CIC and the other is for me.) Then she kept both and asked me to wait. After about five minutes, another woman called my name and she gave me a permanent SIN and COPR.

I hope your landing is soon!

Hey @Tomorisu Welcome back and thanks for replying!
So you were able to get a SIN number? That was the doubt, cuz @Quebecookie was told at her landing that she had to wait for the PR card.. :S I hope I'll hope a nice officer who will give me a SIN asap! :)
So, you got a confirmation letter (on nov 7th) and then another letter (nov 20th) with your landing date (nov 28th) Seems that Is almost a month, I think Ill take the risk to renew my passport and be able to land with my married name :)
Im so excited about this! is seen the light at the end of the tunnel :) I hope nothing else goes wrong in the landing interview (it cant, can it?)...

@Lecoq, Thanks for your reply too, Its true, cic is so inconsistent we can only help each other with our own testimonies but we cant be sure is gonna be like that for everyone else :( I honestly thank all of you cuz just knowing how it went for you guys give me an idea of what to expect :)

Thanks for your support and answers :) Keep in touch!

Thanks so much for that answer. I think that settles the question.

The form says, "To determine if you must complete this section, see the definition of “family member” in the Guide for Sponsored Persons, Section 1 (Definitions)," and the guide says:

Family member
In relation to the sponsor and the principal sponsored person:
• a spouse or de facto spouse, who must be at least 16 years old;
• a dependent child and, if applicable, that child’s dependent child.
so we are not listing parents or siblings of the principal applicant. The Formulaire d'Engagement is clearer when it says, "Ne pas inscrire le nom des membres de votre famille qui sont citoyens canadiens." I was talking about the "Application for Selection Certificate – Family class" (which, for some reason, is in English), but the two forms have to agree.

Hi MaxLet,

About SIN. Inland applicants have a chance to get a permanent SIN at the landing interview. It depends on the local office. In my case, my landing was done at the Service Canada. QuebecOkie landed at Chicoutimi and it was a special case, not at the regular local office nor the Service Canada. That's why she was not able to get her SIN at the landing, I think.

I got an OWP and a temporary SIN before landing. In the letter about the landing interview, the following was told:
When you become a permanent resident, you must change your social insurance number so that it corresponds to your new status. To support you, Service Canada representatives will be available at your interview to help you acquire your new social insurance number providing that you satisfy the proof of identity requirements. Please bring your current social insurance card to the interview (the number on the card should begin with 9). If you prefer to obtain your social insurance card at a later date, you must wait until you receive your permanent residence card before going to a Service Canada Centre.
