::) Hello Friends,

I am in 16 months regular Mechanical engineering ( tool and die ) course [without vacations] , George brown college .
How much Post graduate Work Permit I will get ? 16 months or 3 years ??

Looking for your reply seniors ??

Best Regards

i think you will get 3 years..

Even i am confused like you all both are :( , please help me !

i did 4 semester continuous study , without vacations !

You Usually don't get a work permit more than ur Study permit duration. In ur case it will not be more than 16 months. That a general rule of thumb.
Hopefully the last poster is rite and u do end up getting 3 years.

Good luck

You will get 3 years PGWP... 16 months = 4 semesters = 2 academic years = 3 years PGWP

It does not matter if you complete your studies within 16 months (no summer break) or 24, still counts as 2 academic years, therefore you get 3 years!
Anything less than that, you get exactly the length of your studies!

usually 2 semesters is considered as 1 year. As most canadians take a summer break from school to do part time jobs. As you have completed 4 semesters it is considered as 2 years. Get a graduation letter from your school showing 4 semesters and apply with it. You will surely get 2 years. Not 3.

so if i would have completed 4 semesters in 2 years , then i would have got 3 year PGWP??
Do you mean to say this ??

The following is from CIC, as I stated above, you'll get 3 years, regardless if you completed your program in 16 months, it is still a 2 year program, which you did with no breaks between. I hope it's clear...

Impact of length of program of study in Canada and the length of the work permit
A Post-Graduation Work Permit cannot be valid longer than the official length of your program of study in Canada. For example, students graduating from a four-year degree program might be eligible for a three-year year work permit. Students graduating from an eight-month certificate program would only be eligible for a work permit of eight months.

If the official length of your program of study is:

less than eight months
you are not eligible for this program
less than two years but more than eight months
you may get a work permit for a period no longer than the length of your program of study (for example, if you studied for nine months, a work permit may be issued for a period of nine months)
two years or more
a work permit may be issued for three years

This information although very insightful, seems contradictory.
First they say you cannot get a work permit longer than your study period, and then they also say for Study period more than 2 years , you may get a three years work permit.

Hmmmm !!!!!

The Rule i believe plans out like this. Each degree program has an expected study duration based on which your PGWP duration is determined. If Your have enrolled in a 2 yrs degree then you would get a 3 year PGWP irrespective of the how many months you use to complete your study. if however, your program is a 16months program with no allowance for summer jobs included then you would get a 2yrs PGWP.

I hope i am correct.

Regards

Exactly, that was also my initial statement, it depends on actual academic years, regardless the total duration that you may complete your program!

3 years PGWP.

Any program of 16 months or more will grant you 3 Years PGWP.

well i am also too confused with this.. so if i drop one semester after 2nd semester then i am going to complete my diploma in 20 months.. will this work.. or i will even get 3 year pgwp for 16 month course..??

Yes 3 years PGWP.
