well i am also too confused with this.. so if i drop one semester after 2nd semester then i am going to complete my diploma in 20 months.. will this work.. or i will even get 3 year pgwp for 16 month course..??

I think u have to finish ur degree before u can apply for a permit. In your case dropping a semester will not work coz u will not have finished ur Degree.

aman @ i know one who have 16 months study and got 18 months work permit !

I even know one who completed his studies in 20 months and got 3 year WP ..

I don't know what is the funda for this ..!!

seriously i am confused.. no i dont know.. so have you completed your 16 months studies..??

According to CIC,

If the official length of your program of study is:

1.less than eight months
you are not eligible for this program

2.less than two years but more than eight months
you may get a work permit for a period no longer than the length of your program of study (for example, if you studied for nine months, a work permit may be issued for a period of nine months)

3.two years or more
a work permit may be issued for three years.

Good Luck.

@aman khinda :- I got it after completing 16months continuous study we will get 16months to 2 year PGWP not 3 years .. droping semester will also not work .
we will get 3 year work permit only when if it is stated in course description that course is of 2 years .. ::)

well i confirmed my college they said the course is regardes as 2 years but you have 16 month fast track course without any breaks.. a student completing a course in two years gets breaks within semester but there are also 4 semester in that.. they said me you are eligible for three year study permit.. lets hope for the best.. satnaam waheguru ji..

::) Hello Friends,

Hi,

after 4 years, I have also come with the same confusion. But I hope by now you have already got the response to your question.

Though my course is considered as of 2 years, total continuous duration will be of 16 months. So can you please let me know the duration of the PGWP I shall get after the study?

If I refer to CIC website URL I get below information -

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/students/post-grad.asp

Officers may issue three-year work permits to individuals who complete a master’s degree in Canada when the DLI has confirmed in the written confirmation of program completion (e.g., an official letter or transcript) that the degree is 16 to 23 months in duration and does not include regularly scheduled breaks.

Thanks.

Hi It all depends on whether you are going for Master or PGDM, CIC has different rules for both the programs. Like if your Masters is of min. 16 month then you will get 3 years of work permit, but for PGDM there is an ambiguity.

Thanks Bhaskar.

I am planning to do Master's only. So hope to get 3 years of PGWP.

@aman khinda Hey did you get work permit for 3 years ?
My course is a fasttrack course of 2 years but with no vacations so it completes in 16 months , I'm confused if I'll get 2 years work permit or 3 Years ?

Hi friends,

I came to Canada as an International student to start my PG diploma in Project Mgt. That started in May 2017 and ended in 12 jan. 2017. I was full time student during this period but I got failed in two subjects that I have to take part time. And On january 15, 2017 I had another course ( full time ) in another Another DLI college offering PGWP courses. If I complete those two subjects part time, while registering full time student in another DLI, will it affect my PGWP ? But, I have been full time student since I am in Canada.

Thanks
