Is it a must to attach a Statement of Purpose (SOP)?

It’s not absolutely required but it’s very helpful as it lets you explain any potential weaknesses in your application since there’s no interview and you’re not gonna get a chance to defend yourself in front of a visa officer. If you have a strong and straightforward case (e.g., you’re an...

The minimum requirement is tuition plus CAD 10,000 for the primary applicant and CAD 4,000 for every dependent per year. If you’re applying via SDS, you need to have paid first year’s tuition, GIC of 10k and the remaining 8k in bank balances (or alternatively, a GIC of 18k). For non-SDS...

SP approved, OWP still pending, both are under the same GCKey. Is that normal?

Yes, it’s normal. Some SOWPs are approved at the same time, some are approved a couple of days or possibly even weeks after. It’s also entirely possible for a SP to be approved and and an SOWP to be refused.

    Work Study

They can help offset some of your living expenses but, depending on your program, are probably not enough to cover tuition, etc. Also note that you will have to convince the visa officer that you can afford to pay for your study and living expenses without working in order to be issued a study...

    SDS 2022 Processing Time

Philippines? We applied May 18, biometrics on May 24. The status changed to medical passed on June 29 for SP and July 5 for SOWP. I read that for some applicants the status doesn’t change at all until the VO makes a decision—i.e., the VO might already be working on the file but didn’t bother to...

Yes, they will refund 10k CAD (less admin fees) at the current exchange rate. As far as they’re concerned, you sent them 10k CAD not 8k USD.

It’s not mandatory but it’s the only place you can address weaknesses/gaps in your application so most people write one.

    SDS 2022 Processing Time

Does IRCC take into account your intake when prioritizing applications? Assuming everything is the same (same visa office, similar applicant profile, etc), will applications for the fall intake be processed ahead of winter or do they not care?

Middle name isn't in my IRCC account but is correct in my forms - do I need to contact them?

Hi, I just realized that I didn't put my middle name in my IRCC account (guess I was confused with First Name vs Given Name) but it's correctly listed in the forms I submitted. I.e.: IRCC account is: FirstName1 + FirstName2 (I have a compound first name) + Surname. IMM1294, IMM5645, etc...

SP + SOWP Applying Together - Do we need to submit separate sets of documents?

Since we are applying together, is it safe to assume that these will be processed together? So if we want to submit documents (e.g., financial documents) under client information for the main applicant, there's no need to submit the same ones under client information the spouse, correct?

Large one-time deposit into our bank account - suspicious for proof of funds purposes?

My spouse and I made a substantial cash deposit to a bank account that we don’t normally use, amounting to approximately 50x the account’s average balance over the past year or so. Some of it was used to pay first year’s tuition, while the rest we plan to leave there for living expenses if/when...
