As far as I am aware, the Liberal government was responsible for streamlining the citizenship application in October 2017 and shortening the processing to 12 months. Traditionally, Conservatives do not seem to be the greatest fans of us immigrants :p

Hmm, I would maybe suggest submitting a webform through https://secure.cic.gc.ca/enquiries-renseignements/canada-case-cas-eng.aspx however from what I hear the response time isn't great there either. Alternatively, maybe give them a call?

I would apply for GCMS/ATIP notes to see what is going on with your file. From what I have heard they don't give you much information over the phone unless it has been 12+ months since you applied.
On a similar note (sorry for hijacking this thread btw) - it says on the CIC website that you can apply for urgent processing if you apply for a job that requires Canadian citizenship. Does this perhaps mean that you have to be offered a job that requires citizenship, or that just applying for...
