    PR Card & SIN Numbers?

WOULD be nice if there were clear and consistent policies, eh? Though I think it's BS that inland applicants would have to wait to get a SIN card for two more months. What if they never had a work permit, and therefore not even a temp SIN, and they want to work after a year or more of not...

Who should be listed on the IMM 5406?

There's still no real barrier to marriage or living together. People even have sponsored common-law partners while still being married to someone else (after being separated but with the divorce not yet finalized). You can proceed, of course, however you want, but there is a very high...

Who should be listed on the IMM 5406?

Here to echo Pongo's opinion. There is little to NO chance of you being approved as conjugal partners. That category is for people who absolutely cannot live together OR get married. You have no barriers in either of those cases. You can either get married and apply as spouses, or apply as...

How do you Americans like Canada? :P

SO true! I really don't feel like I live in Canada. I live in Québec. I didn't speak French when I arrived, but I'm getting there. Yes, I'm really rather negative about the vast majority of Americans. I find many people to be ignorant, and rather than work to chip away at that ignorance...

    PR Card & SIN Numbers?

Service Canada is apparently as consistent in their policies as CIC! The CIC agent with whom I had my landing interview told me that I couldn't get a SIN card without my PR card. So I just planned to wait. Another immigrant here, however, told me that I could get one with my passport and...

    desperately seeking answers!!! PLEASE HELP

From my understanding, you do meet the conditions for a conjugal couple. There is no barrier to you living together or marrying. The conjugal partner class is for those for whom it is *completely impossible* to either live together or get married. For instance, if a Canadian is in a...

Do we need to live in Quebec?

I thought of something else. Does your partner have any interest in learning French? If so, applying through Québec has an advantage. Having a CSQ will give him access to free French courses through Québec's immigration ministry. I just completed 6 months of full-time courses, and they were...

We received your application for permanent residence on May 2, 2013.

http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/french-language/learning-quebec/index.html I took the intensive full-time classes, and they were INCREDIBLE.

Do we need to live in Quebec?

With family class sponsorship, the CSQ is pretty much a formality. Language is not an issue (the undertaking is a French form, but there's no requirement of the applicant to speak or learn French). If the extra fee is of absolutely no concern, and you're not exactly sure where you'll settle...

How do you Americans like Canada? :P

Yeah, I so definitely DO NOT live in Canada! :-D Not saying people here are rude. I find them to be quite nice. They just have different ideas of personal space.

Applying From Within Canada- Which Office ?

Not sure what you mean. Outland apps have long gone to Mississaugua. Inland apps used to go to Vegreville, until a recent change. They now go to Mississaugua, too.

US citizen wife and moving back to Canada

:-* I love when little misunderstandings occur, and people on the internet choose to act like humans and be respectful instead of degenerating into "you're a poo-poo head - NO, YOU!" Best wishes on your journey, Smonro04!

Filing partner taxes before common law PR application. Is it necessary?

Unless you're in Québec, she'll have to include an Option C form from CRA. She won't be able to get that, I don't believe, without having filed her taxes. Also, filing as common-law for the past four years will be further proof of your status together. I have no personal experience with this...

We received your application for permanent residence on May 2, 2013.

Congratulations! If you have any interest in French classes, Québec's immigration ministry offers some great French classes for FREE to immigrants. I'll be happy to post some links. I just finished six months of full-time French classes, and I pretty much consider myself bilingual now. :)

    INLAND APPLICATIONS 2012

Congrats on finally getting your good news!!! The language CIC uses about conditional permanent residency (condition 51, which requires two years of cohabitation after landing as a sponsored spouse or common-law partner) is "in a relationship of two years or less," so that sounds to me like...

US citizen wife and moving back to Canada

Hmm, I really can't help with that. I honestly don't know if the hubby ever imported his car. He's allergic to administrative details, and he does a lot of things WRONG. He wasn't the hubby when he moved to Oklahoma. And OK has really lax vehicle laws (no more annual inspection, that kind of...

No. All applications, inland and outland, now go to CIC-Mississaugua.

US citizen wife and moving back to Canada

No, there was no import/export for his car, though it took a while to get the Customs agent to understand that. He is a Canadian who, in 2008, drove his Canadian car to Oklahoma in the US. Four years later, he drove his Canadian car back into Canada. It was pretty straightforward, as there...

Do we need to live in Quebec?

Do you plan to stay at all in Québec with family when you move back, perhaps just at first until you get your feet under you? Or do you plan to settle somewhere else immediately? It may be *slightly* easier to prove your intent to return to Québec, as you already have ties there and can have a...
