They should be okay... two way to show PoF, you have the money or you have the future revenue that will cover that amount in a year. But, I am not sure how Border officer will react as your future income will come from E.I, If possible, take a loan from someone.

What about your EI? how long you are taking those? If it is at initial stage, you can show EI as your revenue. Hope it helps...

If you do not have nay issue from your employer, i would suggest apply for Work Permit around on 10th January, 2017. Anyways, your employer cannot complain on your status if you apply before 17th January as per CIC, but there are some employer still give hard time. So, apply around 10th January...
