I think bank statement should be fine. BTW, I already settled Canada using work permit for almost 2 years, and maybe the officer knew from system that I'm currently working full time and didn't bother to check anything.

I dont know too much about flag poling without entering the US. For me, I just visited the US for a few hours and come back using my US visa. I carried some bank statements with me in case officer wants to see, but he didn't.

Unfortunately, you have to apply the B1/B2 visa from local US Consulate. Check their website first to prepare all the documents and make your interview appointment. In my opinion, US visa is the single most difficult visa to apply.

What is your nationality ? Whether you can travel to US visa free depends on your nationality not Canadian PR. Unfortunately, US green card holder can visit Canada visa free, but not vice versa.

You're right. Maybe there're different officers handing your friend and your cases. Depending on officer's schedules, even for cases coming in at the same time, the final processing and approval timeline wont be the same at all.
