2. YES. Once you apply for a WP, either New, Renewal, or Extension, submit your new Passport with your application.

Client ID Number
Immigration File Number/Application Number
Financial receipts (IMM 5401); or
Any letter or official document issued to you by CIC

If you can return to Canada before your current WP expires, I guess your fine. But if you plan to return a month after, then wait for your renewed WP first before getting out of the Canada. You need a valid WP when you re-enter Canada. :)

Marshmallow is right. With or without dependents must have same processing time in terms of OWP application. If they changed their procedure might as well post it on the website so that people will know and tell the 'bad' news to their loved ones waiting in their respective countries. :o

You must only work with the employer stated in your work permit. You are not authorized to work for any employer. That is one of the conditions listed on your work permit.

One of the requirements of getting a TRV as a worker is a Certificate of Employment or Letter from your Employer stating that you still work for them plus your valid Work Permit.
Your problem now is the Certificate of Employment. Visa Office might refuse your TRV application.
