I think what I shall do is pay a visit to Service Canada/Ontario on Monday and get their opinion on it. Bring all my stuff just in case. I'll see what they say on the matter - I totally see your point though, why renew my SIN now when nothing has formally progressed yet - and then bring it up...

There is an exp date on my SIN, that's why I figured I could no longer work any more and my employers brought that up with me also. So, if I go to my employers and explain what the CIC lady said to me, are they likely to accept that without the need for a SIN renewal? It's a big corporation...
