Received my OWP today. An excellent holiday gift. If I had sent it with my PR app, I would have already had it. Hind sight is 20/20.

married couples vs common law and congical processing

It does make a difference. Marriages are harder to get out of. Just look at the PR app, it asks way more from common law couples.

How long can someone from US visit in Canada?

He does NOT need legal status to get PR in Canada. He could be out of status and still be approved since status is not used in determining approval of in Canada spousal PR. My passport was not stamped coming from the US either. I went to an immigration office to ask what to do, and they told me...

No plane tickets or email conversations since we met over a decade ago, but...

They are not as strict on legally married couples. Common law couples need to prove more than married couples. Especially if you were married in Canada.

Informing US that spouse is no longer living there

Capital gains tax is lower than most income tax. But I would think if your regular earnings are high enough abroad then they would defiantly charge some tax. As far as refunds, I think most credits start at earnings above 3k..ish and could be on US only earning to get it. I bet most people do...

Informing US that spouse is no longer living there

From what I understand, the government of Canada is telling/ordering banks not to release financial information to the IRS. But that would not excuse the US from arresting her when traveling abroad for tax evasion. All in all, I think it will solely depend on your income level. If your income is...

    INLAND APPLICATIONS 2010

Based on CIC policies. In theory, a person could float here on tire with no passport and still be able to apply if they got married to a Canadian person. Person being resident, citizen, or first nation aboriginal. Legal status is not required under spousal class. Not suggesting it...just saying.

Criminal and Medical exam is sent off together with PR application or wait?

Sent mine off altogether. The packet app says to do that.

Informing US that spouse is no longer living there

I would take care of jury duty thing asap. Legal issues could creep up later. Maybe simply telling them she does live in that state anymore could work. But I would not let to many people know I'm living in CA. There is an ongoing legal fight between Canada and the US regarding taxes and US...

    Inland Application 2011

Angus, I wanted to reply but the system wont let me. Not being specific, I got the same things in the mail. But I have not called. I have noticed a stark disconnect between what the customer service reps know and what goes on in Vegreville.

    INLAND APPLICATIONS 2010

tozo, I was thinking the same thing about them scanning the passport at port of entry. My passport was not stamped coming form the US to Canada. So before I mailed my PR app I went to the local CIC office to ask about what I needed to do. She ran my passport through their system and nothing was...

Sometimes they don't even stamp your passport when you enter. So how are they to truly know your out of status?

    INLAND APPLICATIONS 2010

@mexicanito, I'm from the US as well. I defiantly don't see Canada as being "better" to live opposed to the US either. People ask me which is better a lot. I say if your poor then Canada is better. If you have money then US is better. Canada takes care of their poor better than the US. The food...

Thanks Serendipity. I applied to the local university here but international tuition was around 14k. So I guess I will just have to wait until I get PR for domestic tuition rate of around 5k. After reading some of the posts, I feel lucky to be this far in the application process. I wonder if the...
