I faced the same situation, I handed in the fee on May 1st and my work permit got approved on the 11th. CIC usually would get back to you in 14 days after the payment, as least that's what I heard.Hope this helps.

Hi my work permit was approved on May 11th, 11 days after I submitted my receipt for the additional $100 fee. And I received it the day before yesterday. Just to give an idea of how long it's gonna take, hope it helps. Good luck!
