Hi everyone,

I am finishing off my inland application. My common law spouse is sponsoring me.
I have everything ready, but my partner lost contact with her previous spouse and because they divorced 20 years ago, he can't remember her birthday either..
Do I just leave it blank? Will this cause my application to be refused?Have anybody had similar experience?

I am sending out my big thanks in advance!

Hi

Don't leave it blank. Put in "Additional Sheet" or something like that and then explain on a separate sheet.

Thank you so much!
Will it cause my application to be refused though?

Hi there I had the same problem ..... I got divorce years ago so what I did was put unknown on the form and back it up with an explanation letter and attached it to the form. My hubby (new husband) too couldn't remeber his ex-wife's dob. So what he did was the same as me as well writting a explanation letter and getting it notorized. Now we are just waiting for SA (praying and hoping we get pass this part)

Good luck !!

Thank you! I find CIC requesting this detailed info to be very unreasonable...because not everybody can remember their formal spouse's dob or stay in touch with them after divorcing for 10 + years...I might have to do the same thing!Thank you very much for sharing and best luck to you!

It would only be unreasonable if they absolutely required this information to process the app. All you need to do is attach the additional sheet explaining that they are no longer in contact and he cannot recall the birthday. There is no need to notarize this explanation. CIC will accept it without issue.

I see...I thought that was the case...I thought they would not process/approve my app if i failed to provide the info. Thank you again!

CIC is not that ridiculous. We don't even know if my partner's parents are alive, let alone their birthdays, current addresses etc. My partner was taken into care as a baby. We simply explained this on a separate sheet, a few lines, nothing complicated. No issues.
