I have seen some cases where people got approved without SOP. People send SOP to make their application stronger, especially people who have masters end up taking diplomas.

They won't issue you with a study permit beyond your passport expiring; if you want maximum time, renew your passport, or you can extend after you renew your passport later when that time comes

Did you submit where the money is coming from as well? Bank statements are not enough; I can borrow someone's and have the bank verify it. I was rejected few years back due to that same reason and submitted my family employment contract to show where the money is coming from.
