Thread for Outland LONDON, UK Applications!

Mine took exactly 2 months but everyone is different.

Transferring money from a British to Canadian bank account

That's who I use. Costs a few quid and usually the funds are moved within a few days.

    Driving license exchange

Shouldn't be a problem. You're supposed to do it within 60 days unless you're just a visitor but I'd doubt the people in the DriveTest centre would even notice/say anything. You haven't driven so you've not done anything you shouldn't in any event. They'll give you a form to fill out and a...

PR card not received within 6 weeks. What to do?

No need to worry just yet. I landed back in August and they said "2-3 months". Took nearly exactly 2 months in the end. If you haven't received it by Christmas try the call centre 1-888-242‑2100

What's it like to live in Canada?

out-of-control cost of living - depends where you move to. I see you mention Mississauga...living in the Greater Toronto Area is known to be expensive. Same as if you moved to New York City over some town in Missouri. low wages - Don't think so. The average wages in Canada are very competitive...

Pretty remarkable to be In Process for over 4 months. They must have spotted something they don't like. Been to Afghanistan or something?

    Foreign Service - Strike?

Thanks for your "help" with the article. By the way, did you actually read it yourself because I'm not sure you did. It doesn't support your idea at all. Be interesting to see the results of this PAFSO strike. On the one hand people are arguing they're so small and "cheap" that it's not worth...

e-Cas Medical Results Received, but still at Application Received

Not sure if they're going quicker in Paris. I know in London they seem to be working on applicants whose file got there in March time.

e-Cas Medical Results Received, but still at Application Received

In my experience "In Process" occurs once you've passed the eligibility assessment at your visa office. Medical results may not necessarily be dealt with at the visa office handling your case.

    Foreign Service - Strike?

Are your figures as robustly researched as the student article?

Given your timeline it's almost a certainty that they are in fact looking at your file. They've likely not bothered to update eCAS though. Expect to hear something in the coming weeks.

e-Cas Medical Results Received, but still at Application Received

"In Progress" on GCMS isn't the same as "In Process" on eCAS so don't draw a comparison. My eCAS said Medical results received from the very first day we were able to access it. This was before even my sponsor had been approved.

DECEMBER 2012 Applicants--This is your thread

I was "In Process" for exactly 2 months as a UK applicant. Others get word in a week. It's random. Medicals are valid for 1 year from the date they were done. If they expire CIC may extend the validity or may request that they are done again.

    Foreign Service - Strike?

They obviously won't matter to you as it doesn't fit the narrative of "kick the government". The facts however are that while this strike causes some ruckus in Canada and screws over some people getting visas (particularly students) it's not having any discernible effect for 99% of Canadians...

    Foreign Service - Strike?

That's the point...no one is ridiculing Canada. Most Canadians aren't even aware, or care about, the strike.

    Foreign Service - Strike?

It's generally a good idea particularly if you feel there isn't anything difficult about your case. If you're from a visa-exempt country you'd likely not be called for interview at all.

    Foreign Service - Strike?

The article is about the ongoing PAFSO strike and that's exactly what they're asking for. Furthermore the author claims the action is causing Canada embarrassment, for example at the G8 meetings in N.Ireland. Luckily however I have relatives working in N.Ireland who were directly involved in...

    Foreign Service - Strike?

National Security...away and jump. A well paid FS officer here is getting paid more than a Police Officer with over 20 years service back in the UK and you don't see them turning to terrorism, espionage or strikes. I love the example used of the Naval Officer. Pointing out he traded secrets...
