Hi all
I hold a clean UK driving license and would like to exchange it for an Ontario license.
Do you see any challenges with this given I have been in Ontario for over 2 years (but never driven)

start here http://www.ontario.ca/driving-ontario you can then self assess how you wish to proceed. I can't do anything about changing mine yet as I don't actually "live" here even though I live here. Go figure LOL

Hi,
I had a clean license fro India (same right hand drive as in UK) and it was non transferable.
I guess UK license is also non transferable. I had taken an experience letter from Indian authorities mentioning I have more than 5 yrs of experience driving Car without any accidents or tickets.
With this, I was able to get waiver for the waiting period and could get my license as soon as I was comfortable driving the car in Canada.
You can also try this route.

if you dont get the exp letter from UK authorities, you will have to wait for G license and that wait period could be upto 2 years.
Hope this information would be helpful

actually licenses from any Canadian province or territory , Canadian Forces Europe, U.S. States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Isle of Man, Japan, Northern Ireland, Korea and Switzerland are all transferrable because there is a reciprocal agreement with these places. The previous link that I gave will give all the information you need to get started.

Shouldn't be a problem.

You're supposed to do it within 60 days unless you're just a visitor but I'd doubt the people in the DriveTest centre would even notice/say anything. You haven't driven so you've not done anything you shouldn't in any event.

They'll give you a form to fill out and a simple eye test and, presumably based on the time you've had the UK licence, a full G ontario one.

By exchange? Yes, you could, particularly if you are planning to stay as a student for more than a year. It's definitely not a bad idea.

They don't ask about your immigration status at DriveTest, by the way. You just have to show up with your license and translated abstract information that is authorized by the embassy. Depending on how long you've had your license you may have to take some tests. The information is listed here:
