    June 2020 - Citizenship Application

There seems to be a notable drop in the app count. Test invite % has gone up because the denominator has (for some reason) gone down.

    August 2020 - Citizenship application

Just noticed on the new status tracker that my FP results were received, and my background verification status is "completed". Some progress, for what it's worth. Language, physical presence and prohibitions are still "in progress". Generally, do any of these 3 need to change to "complete"...

2020 Applicants -Online Test Invitation -Lets meet here

Anybody know why the app count on the 2020 worksheet (Percentage Comparison tab) is lower today than it was at the start of the month? For example Jan, Feb, Mar rows show app counts 156, 130, 136 respectively, all of which are lower today than what I noted on 1st July. Generally the app count...

    August 2020 - Citizenship application

I just did a Google Maps search for the closest FP agency to me that had decent reviews. It's digital fingerprinting, so they transmit it immediately to RCMP and give you a "DCN" number for tracking progress directly with RCMP. But because it's a private agency, they charged me $50, if you go...

    August 2020 - Citizenship application

I'm an August 2020 applicant along with wife and kids. I received FP request and submitted through an agency last month, but my wife did not - her Background Verification status shows as "completed" as of March. Does this mean she will not be asked for FP and could receive her test invite? Or is...

Citizenship test: Collective action required, or expect endless delays, years. Example of the effective lobbyng of people awaiting spousal sponsorship

Thanks for sharing. Seems that this link is working OIC_IRCC_Special_Report_2021_0.pdf (oic-ci.gc.ca) It's clear that access to information request numbers and complaint statistics get tracked. It's great that people affected by IRCC's lethargy aren't settling for outdated maxims like...

Citizenship test: Collective action required, or expect endless delays, years. Example of the effective lobbyng of people awaiting spousal sponsorship

Haven't spent time looking through your posts, and I'm not one to stick labels like anti-immigrant on people in a hurry, so please disregard that. The bigger disagreement I have is on your position on making the path to citizenship harder. Raising citizenship requirements from 3 years to 5...

Citizenship test: Collective action required, or expect endless delays, years. Example of the effective lobbyng of people awaiting spousal sponsorship

It's a bit frustrating to see that attitude, given have valuable immigrants are to Canada. If you look at our public finances closely, you will realize the country needs immigrants. Desperately. Immigration is a 2-way street, Canada needs productive immigrants just as badly as immigrants want to...

Citizenship test: Collective action required, or expect endless delays, years. Example of the effective lobbyng of people awaiting spousal sponsorship

I don't want to dismiss cheating or other issues with going online. But when communication from IRCC has been as weak as it has, they are asking for people to make assumptions. Pre-COVID, more than 80% of test takers were passing the citizenship test on their first try... it's not a...

Has anyone ordered Gcms notes recently?

Just got my GCMS notes, 6 weeks after applying. I'm an August 2020 applicant, progress isn't much but at least my file is not stuck in Sydney. Mentions that Criminality is in progress and due 14-Feb-2021, but this is status as of 1-Feb-2021. Anybody of the opinion this may already be complete...

Citizenship test: Collective action required, or expect endless delays, years. Example of the effective lobbyng of people awaiting spousal sponsorship

Technology is scalable. If it works for 5k online test takers, it can work for 50k (with suitable staffing for completeness and cheating detection checks). I doubt the bottleneck is technology or Marie Josee Dorion. My money is on constraints placed on IRCC by the federal employees union. It...

    August 2020 - Citizenship application

Fair points. The reality is Canada's economy is a one trick pony, and lacks depth and diversity, and is hopelessly behind on innovation compared to the US. The main attraction for highly educated immigrants is the quick path to PR + passport, not professional opportunity. On the flip side...

Citizenship test: Collective action required, or expect endless delays, years. Example of the effective lobbyng of people awaiting spousal sponsorship

The crux of the matter is the IRCC is doing a rather poor job of adapting to COVID. All the emotion on this thread and elsewhere on these forums is a reflection of that poor job. If this were the private sector, heads would roll.

    August 2020 - Citizenship application

If you look at Canada's public finances closely, you will realize the country needs immigrants. Desperately. Immigration is a 2-way street, Canada needs productive immigrants just as badly as immigrants want to come here for a better quality of life than their home countries. Take immigrants...

Citizenship test: Collective action required, or expect endless delays, years. Example of the effective lobbyng of people awaiting spousal sponsorship

That there is likely a non-technology reason why online test have not expanded beyond "pilot" capacity of 5k applicants. Recall when the pilot was launched, there were high hopes for rapid expansion. It's a bit naive to assume the slow progress is due to technology scalability. Notice radio...

Citizenship test: Collective action required, or expect endless delays, years. Example of the effective lobbyng of people awaiting spousal sponsorship

It would not surprise me to see the pace of online tests and virtual oaths being a discussion point between the union and IRCC. The reason is simple - what starts as a remote-working solution during COVID, has the potential to gradually increase automation and reduce the number of IRCC employees...
